Why do I have to do Norton Password Manager "Sign In" process over and over again after I close my Firefox 74.0 browser?

Norton Product Name:  Norton 350 With Lifelock Select Version 22.20.1.69

Norton Password Manager Version 6.7.1.6

Browser: Firefox 74.0 (64 bit)

Operating System: Windows 10 with all the latest updates installed

When I click the "Norton Password Manager" extension in my Firefox 74.0, I do the "Sign In" process ... with my email/password, I do the two factor text message verification code and the Captcha picture thing. After successfully logging in this way, the Mobile Unlock and everything else works as it is supposed to.

However, once I CLOSE MY FIREFOX BROWSER AND THEN START IT UP AGAIN it forces me to have to do the whole "Sign In" all over again! It's super annoying having to do this every time I start Firefox.

I can log out of "Norton Password Manager" extension and then log in again without having to do "Sign In" again. It's only when I CLOSE MY FIREFOX BROWSER AND THEN START IT UP AGAIN that I have this issue where I have to do "Sign In" all over again. It didn't used to have this problem with my Firefox browser. Is this caused by the new 74.0 version of Firefox? Is it not compatible with the current version of the "Norton Password Manager" Add-on? I do NOT have this problem with the "Norton Password Manager" extension when I use Google Chrome browser and Microsoft Edge. Firefox is my default browser so I want to continue to use it.

I also noticed that it says this when I went to the "Firefox Browser Add Ons" webpage and I typed in "Norton Password Manager" ... "This is NOT a Recommended Extension. Make sure you trust it before installing". THIS IS VERY CONCERNING TO ME. Why isn't Norton Password Manager a recommended extension since it involves VERY IMPORTANT PASSWORD DATA? Is this why "Norton Password Manager" is having this issue with having to "Sign In" over and over after I close my Firefox 74.0 browser?

I also have the same problem and i'm also using the latest firefox 74.0!!

I did NOT have this problem with the "Norton Password Manager" extension when I used Google Chrome browser and Microsoft Edge.

So it is firefox that causes this problem please fix this as soon as possible!!!

Same problem here. Clicking on Norton Password Manager frequently asks for Norton username and password. Often Firefox needs to be restarted to get Norton Password Manager to allow me to open the app. I have not tried using other browsers.

Is anyone from Norton Support going to reply to this post

Is a Norton Forum administrator going to ask one of the top Norton Password Manager software developers?

This is very disappointing. I pay good money for my subscription and support pretty much doesn't exist.

Firefox 74.0.  Every time I open a new browser, I am prompted to log into my Norton Account - I have checked the box for "remember me on this device", and then I have to input my Password Manager password.  But if I close my Firefox, I'll have to log back into my Norton account again if I try to access NPM.  This problem does NOT present itself in Chrome 80.0.3987.132.  I've tried removing and reinstalling the NPM extension to no avail.  Next step would seem to be to reinstall the browser, but I'm trying to hold off as this does not seem like a browser issue.

I have the same problem here. Since Norton Support is not interested in fixing this issue, I will use other password services in the future and recommend everyone do the same. It doesn't make sense to pay for a product that doesn't work.

I'm having the same issue with Firefox 74 on Windows 10 since this morning. It's doing the same thing on my wife's laptop.  And since the Windows Edge update, trying to open Norton Password Manger only causes it to have a circle with 3 stars in it spin for about 2 seconds, then it closes and will not even open a sign-in box.

I just did a live chat with Norton support, here was there answer.

"Our concern team is aware of this issue please do not worry we will get back to you with the resolution and also you can contact us within 24-48 hours to know the update."

Same issue just started recently for me. Had live chat 2 days ago which got escalated to a supervisor after about an hour and a half of uninstalling pw manager and Firefox and reinstalling both, still had same issue. The supervisor said there was a setting in Firefox that had something to do with being able to run extensions in the background (I am still able to use IE and Chrome with no issues). It was getting late at the time and again was over 1.5 hours, but supervisor never figured out where or if this setting was or a fix for this issue.  Norton/Firefox, please get this fixed.

Same issue, but I think the crux is that "Remember me on this device" doesn't seem to work, no matter what I put in the "logins and passwords" or cookie "manage permissions" areas.  On Chrome, I still get the demand to log in to my Norton account, but the second time around, the login information is already populated, so I only have to click through.

I have the same problem here.  This does not appear to be a problem with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge as I have had no problems in either of those. Hopefully this will be sorted sooner than later.

I suspect the lack of Norton-Mozilla collaboration. Why? Because Edge (Microsoft) and Chrome (Google) work fine.

It seems Firefox and Norton always seems to have this uneasy relationship.  I have the same problem and if it persists, may need to start looking elsewhere.

Re: Why do I have to do Norton Password Manager "Sign In" process over and over again after I close my Firefox 74.0 browser?

The problem with having to sign in to your Norton Account to get to the Vault login is happening on Firefox, Chrome and MS Edge. I saw in an earlier post that Norton Support said the problem was something in Firefox. That is truly interesting when the problem is happening across all three major browsers that have the latest Norton Password Extension.

Re: Why do I have to do Norton Password Manager "Sign In" process over and over again after I close my Firefox 74.0 browser?

Tom:  I agree that it happens on more that just Firefox.  I haven't tried it on Edge, but Norton does ask you to sign in to your account before you get the password manager sign-in page on Chrome as well as on Firefox.  One Norton tech told me it was an intentional form of two-factor authentication.  As I said above, the difference is that Chrome seems to be able to remember the account login info and populate the first sign-in accordingly, while Firefox does not.  Some of the comments above suggest that other users do not even see the account sign-in box on Chrome and Edge.  Maybe I have Chrome configured differently.  I suspect that it all has to do with the different ways in which the browsers handle "Remember me" instructions, whether through cookies or in some other way.

Firefox has the ability to let you install previous Extension versions. Remove the current NPM Extension, search for "Norton Password Manager", select NPM, scroll down and select "See all versions" and add version 6.6.3.5

Go back to the Add-ons Manager and select "Off" for "Allow automatic updates". Close all Firefox windows.

Once Norton resolves the problem install the latest Extension version and reset auto update back to Default.

Good luck, this worked for me.

Tried your suggestion to install previous version. It took a few different tries of removing and installing the older version to get it to work, but it seems to be working for me too. Thanks!

This problem is now occurring with Apple iOS app.  So this leads me to believe the problem is not with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Edge.  This is certainly a Norton problem.

Thanks. Glad I can use Firefox again. It's working for me now. No need to do the Sign In process over and over anymore.

It would be great if Norton could get Norton Password Manager vetted by Firefox so that I don't see this on the Firefox Add-Ons webpage though ... This is not a Recommended Extension. Make sure you trust it before installing.

Mudball:  Just to be sure:  Do you still have to sign in to your Norton account before you can sign in to your vault?  The latter sign-in is still required each time you reopen Firefox.  Did you manually update the Norton add-on to Version 6.7.1.9?

No. It just started opening the password vault sign-in box. I didn't do anything at all.

Re: Why do I have to do Norton Password Manager "Sign In" process over and over again after I close my Firefox 74.0 browser?

No Stephen. For example after I put my computer to sleep, then in the morning lets say the first thing I want to do is to log into my account for Craigslist. Well then I must unlock the vault. Each and every time I after I put the computer to sleep and log back in then I have to do that and not to mention that Im certain that I must sign in to Norton Account every time I want to use NPM after the sleep mode as well. I hope you understand my response. Before Norton went into the covid virus mode, I was on the phone with them and due to unforeseen circumstances, we didnt get to finish our call and I never got to call them back. She did ask me what Browser I had and I told her Firefox. I think she asked a few other questions but that was about it, and maybe my issue is the way things are suppose to be for now, but I keep hearing that people dont have to keep logging back into their Vault over again once they are signed in.

Thanks

Re: Why do I have to do Norton Password Manager "Sign In" process over and over again after I close my Firefox 74.0 browser?

I'm not the one who will solve this for you, but let's be sure everyone understands the issue.  You appear not to have the very annoying issue many of us had when we had to log in to our Norton account before we could even see the Password Manager login page.  I think that is what was fixed.  After we start up Firefox, we still have to log in to the Password Manager once for the session.  I tend to power off my computer instead of putting it to sleep, and so I have to start Firefox again the next day.  But if the computer goes to sleep on its own while Firefox is still running, then I'm still logged in to the Password Manager after I wake it up.  When you wake your computer up in the morning, is Firefox still running?  If so, and you still have to login to the Manager again, I have no idea how to fix it.

Re: Why do I have to do Norton Password Manager "Sign In" process over and over again after I close my Firefox 74.0 browser?

I believe I understand what youre saying and maybe due to my lack of knowledge, Im confused with the different terminologies. To your question, no firefox is not running in the morning, because I havent opened a window yet. I believe my biggest concern, is that I dont have to put my computer to sleep to have what I consider an issue. Meaning mostly the vault. That is, even if I dont "sleep" and all I do is simply close all my windows, and then open a window right back, I have to open the vault for NPM again. I believe other people understand this as not normal. Having windows 8 for a long time without using the password manager(and other different features), Im really new to windows 10, correct terminology, and other procedures, so its not the end of the world for me just yet. I will do my best in the future to make notes of what, when and where it happens on my computer, and then try to properly relay that information.  Thanks very much for your help.

Re: Why do I have to do Norton Password Manager "Sign In" process over and over again after I close my Firefox 74.0 browser?

The last thing Im concerned and confused about is some Vaults having either a "local" or "cloud" vault. Apparently I have a cloud vault and cant obtain a local vault due to my system, browser, setup, or whatever I have. Also, its to my understanding that people with a local vault do not have to continually sign in, like those with a cloud vault do. However, Im not 100% sure about this. Thanks
