WiFi Privacy Issues: email, banking

I installed WiFi Privacy a few days ago, and the following issues should be documented prior to someone like myself (not a geek) installs this product.  If I had known ahead of time, I would have spent my money at Starbucks vs. this product.

Here are the issues:

1.  Every time I log into any secure account such as a bank, they will either ask you one of your security questions, or lock you out and request that you verify your account after which they send you a code to get back in.  This is understandable I guess, but very annoying.

2.  SLOW speed due to encryption, etc.  But very, very slow....

3.  Hotmail has locked me out of my account.  I assume it is because of the IP address changing each time I start up the computer.  I can now only access my account via my iPod (so it obviously is only my computer that is the issue).  Please note that I have another non hotmail account and no problems.

4. Sometimes, you cannot connect.  Today, for example, it gave me an unsecure network message and did not connect.  I restarted the computer and did get a connection, but it was dropped after a minute.  I am writing this message because I disabled the WiFi Privacy and am going without.  There is no problem with the network and it now works at the speed I had prior to Privacy.

The problems might be due to the fact that I am using Vista, but I am now afraid to install this protection on my Windows 10 computer.  However, I have now written off the cost of this product and no longer will be using it.

Not a happy camper.....

Re: WiFi Privacy Issues: email, banking

There are many users pointing out the same issues you note. Myself included. I have the same issue as #3 with my Gmail. Although it does not lock me out, it is more like your #1 where I have to verify it was me trying to access my account.

You do not need to write off any cost. You have 60 days to request a refund for a product you do not feel is satisfactory. Just contact Norton Support and request the refund.    www.norton.com/contactcs

Re: WiFi Privacy Issues: email, banking

As follow up to my original post, I have decided to keep this feature as it really does provide protection.

For those apps that do not work for me as listed above (plus Skype), I disable the WiFi protection, then enable it after I finish.

I still think this problem though should be documented in the sales pitch.

That is the workaround I use.

And BTW, it is not just Norton's VPN that has this issue with some secure sites. There are sites that can detect you are using a VPN and will block access to their services.
