Win 10 Upgrade and NSS Failure

I updated to Win10, and found out after the fact that I should have updated Norton Security Suite first. My subsequent experience with Norton was not as successful as others. I have consulted with two Norton Support Techs over four hours (including phone wait time), and they used remote access to delve into the finer points of my system. They used Norton Power Eraser and Norton Uninstaller, deleted Norton Program files, and even went into the Registry to make changes. Other than making registry changes, I had used the other tools prior to calling the support line. Based on the Norton Techs conclusions so far, Norton Security Suite cannot be installed on my system after the upgrade to Win 10. Actually, I haven't heard from them, they simply gave up working on it. I am waiting a few days to find out if the Techs can develop a fix for the future. Until then, I will be using Windows Defender and Windows Firewall, and exploring other options. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Win 10 Upgrade and NSS Failure

@JSDowns, When you tried to install Norton Security Suite after upgrading to Windows 10 was there any error message shown? or the installation process just didn't start? Could you please provide more info on what exactly happened when you tried to install Norton Security Suite?

Note: Comcast Norton Security Suite ver 22.5.2.15 is compatible with Windows 10. Please give a try by downloading NSS from below link and let us know how it goes.Download Link :  Norton.com/NSS

@Sunil_GA

Here is a link to a search for NSS activation situations on the Comcast Board

http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?filter=labels%2Clocation%2CdateRangeType&q=activation&rangeTime=1w&location=forum-board%3A13&search_type=thread

It seems most of the complaints are tied to click Activate and nothing happens - loops.

As you can see from the search results - we got some sorted out, but we are still getting situations reported.

Re: Win 10 Upgrade and NSS Failure

Since my last interaction with Norton Tech Support, I have followed the suggestions posted here and on Comcast's support site (many of the suggestions are the same). I have followed the instructions to set IE as the default browser, clean any Norton files from the Program Files folder, ran the Norton Uninstaller, and downloaded NSS from the link suggested in Sunil_GA's post above. All to no avail.

I never get to the step where I can activate the program. The program runs through the initial agreement screen (where I click on the "I agree", etc.), then proceeds to run through the downloading, extracting, installing screens that are typical of the program. The process then continues with the next screen that indicates that there is an "Error", the installer then starts compressing error files, and then asks if I wish to send those error files to Norton. I press "Send". The Installer then tells me that there was an "Irrevocable Error", and suggests that I restart the PC to allow the Installer to finish installing NSS. Which I have done on numerous occasions with no luck. That is a loop, but I don't think it is in the same sense as noted above.

Re: Win 10 Upgrade and NSS Failure

A Norton Tech called me last night and was able to solve the problems with the NSS Installation. After 50 minutes of Remote Access and multiple Registry edits, she was successful. While it took 4 days and 3 Techs to solve the problem, I am very happy with the end result. I believe that the extent of the Win 10 upgrade problems were greater than Norton realized, but to Norton's credit they have been tenacious in seeking a solution that works for me. Thank you!
