Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

Hi,

I've been trying to install Norton Internet Secuirty 22.0 on Windows 10, but it won't let me. Every time I try I get the message: "This app can't run on this PC". I was able to install Internet Security 2015, but it won't accept my license key (Internet Security 2014). I thought version 22.0 was supposed to be compatible with Windows 10. Is there any way to install it on Windows 10 or do I have to purchase another license for Internet Security 2015?

Perhaps recent kb doc will help >
I cannot find my Norton product after upgrading to Windows 10
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v113033802

Um, you'll need 22.5.2.15 ~ Please see: Norton Product Update 22.5.2.15 for Windows 10 Compatibility

Re: Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

Thanks for help, but the problem is I never got the prompt to upgrade. I unistalled Norton right after upgrading to Windows 10 hoping that I would be able to reinstall it. Now I can't install version 22.0 and therefore I can't install the update. The latest version of Norton 2015 installs just fine, but when I try to type in my key it says it's invalid. It seems that my key can olny be used with Norton Internet Security, not Norton Security.

Re: Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

You'll need Norton Internet Security v22.5.2.15
Can you pull pre-activated install from your Norton account...
I can offer stand alone NIS v22.5.2.15 installer...
But, now as Norton Security is on board you've over written Norton Internet Security.
Yes, NIS key only for NIS
Where did you pull Norton Security from as you run Norton Internet Security.

Re: Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

I logged into my Norton account and downloaded NS 22.5.2.15, however it only gives a 30-day trial. My previous subscription had 100 or so days left (Norton™ Internet Security Netbook Edition Subscription Renewal (1 Year Subscription), but I can't activate it with NS. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with a link to the newest NIS version. Thanks so much for responding so quickly.

Re: Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

@MattDor, I'm glad it worked. When you reinstalled the product, why did you download/install Norton Security instead of Norton Internet Security? Where did you download it from? Also do you have an OEM computer, like HP or Dell that came preloaded with software? Thanks for your help.

Re: Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

I somehow couldn't find an appropriate link to download the newest version of NIS. I wanted to download a free trial from the official Norton website and then insert my key, but the link provided on the website would only give me NS instead of NIS. And the previous versions of NIS would not install on Windows 10. As for my computer, I have a PC without any preloaded software.

@MattDor, are you able to search your internet history, to find out exactly where you went for that link? I apologize for harping on it; we want to be sure we're communicating effectively to customers and that our processes aren't broken. Thanks.

This is the website I tried to download NIS trial from, but instead got NS:

http://us.norton.com/downloads-trial-norton-internet-security

I think it was my bad. I didn't notice that NIS was rebranded to NS. I guess there are no NIS trials anymore.

Matt,

I know what you encountered having once gone looking for a trial download of NIS for a user ......

Fortunately the humans here had the shortcut ....

hi Cnilo.poyanco

Do you have the public release of Windows 10 or an Insiders Release?

If you have the latest Insiders Release you may wish to read the thread linked below:

Re: Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

Updated from Win7 to win10 2 months ago, everything seemed to work fine, even Norton 360 updated itself.

Since day before yesterday, 30th of October, windows 10 Norton 360 premium, suddenly after a restart my start menu wasn't working any more. Message: "Critical error. you're start menu isn't working. Sign out, next time you sign in.....etc."

Could not fix it or figure it out, many people same problem. I did find some suggestions un-installing Norton or other anti-virus programs but I did not use that suggestion. I had to to a restore to an earlier restore point, went back to 2 days earlier(27thOct).. My installation of Norton has disappeared. some files are still there but the installation is gone, signed into my account and tried to re download No remaining devices left ' free up a device'. Looked and looked, wasted a lot of time and my time is expensive. Downloaded a fix tool 'windows10nortonupgrader.exe', downloaded the files, tried to install but windows won't let it message:"This app can't run on this pc".

checked for more solution, giving up, have been with Norton for several years, no going to end my client relation soon, problem is just last august renewed my subscription so still valid  close to a year, not good, no solution, wasted so much time already, who will pay me for that. This way Norton is to expensive for me, not working. Need a solution soon or I will find a different security program, fed up with this!

p.s......while Norton 360 premium has disappeared from the pc...windows defender took its place automatically, just without asking or any conformation, doing its work scanning the pc. You guys, Symantec and Microsoft have a feud together or something? MS kicking out Norton and taking its place?

Re: Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

hi Revele

I think I would be inclined to start from fresh with Norton by downloading and running the Norton Removal Tool to clear the remaining Norton files. You can download the Tool from the link below:

Norton Removal Tool

After restarting your computer go to your Norton Account click on the Services Tab near the top of the page where you will see a list of devices which currently have Norton 360 installed. Find the one you are going to reinstall and click the Trash Bin next to it which will free up a seat for you to download and install a pre-activated copy of Norton 360. You can sign-in to your Norton Account from the link below:

Norton Account Sign-in

I have been in the habit of once downloading Norton and before installing of going to the Windows 10 settings for Windows Defender and turning off all the sliders for it, you will need to turn off the bottom two before the first setting. There have been a few users with both Norton and Windows Defender saying they are either both turned on or off. Some of the difficulties have been because Windows 10 is new and still a work-in-progress and not everything is running smoothly with Windows and many programs which probably can be expected when all that has been going on is brand new for most people, Microsoft and software manufacturers.

Thanks, I will try that, the version of Windows I have is Windows 10 Pro build 10240, automatic updates working.

Let you know how things turn out.

Re: Windows 10 - "this app can't run on this PC"

hi Revele

I believe you will find that Build 10240 is the current consumer version of Windows 10 the higher Build Numbers are for those in the Insiders Program testing for the next consumer version of Windows 10.

Hopefully what I have suggested will solve your problem.

Thanks, it seemed to have worked, used the norton removal tool and then the the device license removed so I could download and re-install, it did accept it this time. Hope for the best, looks ok now, Thanks again for the suggestions, regards, Ron
