Windows 10 family Time limit reach can be bypass

On windows 10 family my son is able to bypass the time limit reach by requesting 30 minutes more without knowledge in my side, ni PIN code entered.

I use Norton family 3.8.4.11 and each child have it's own user account on the laptop.

No use of an alternative account also.

How is it possible ?

Re: Windows 10 family Time limit reach can be bypass

Hi La Colle,
Upon further investigation from Norton backend systems we are able to see that PIN has been used to extend the time limit on your child's PC. We suggest you to change the PIN and not disclose it to your child.

Norton Family sends out an email and alert notification when PIN is used to extend the device time.
From the time limit reached pop-up, the child can request for time extension and you could choose to approve/deny from Norton Family Portal or Parents apps.

Please try these out and let us know if you require further assistance.

Thanks,
Norton Family team!

I don't hink there is a PIN code entered because there is no email concerning the pin code entry.

For example today at 12:56 French time "end of time" at 12:56 request extension for 30 minutes where I didn't approve or disapprove but my child use the laptop for 20 minutes or more...

Hi La Colle,

We observe that the system time on your Child's device is incorrect. Can you please correct the device Date and Time and try if the problem still exists.
If you continue seeing this issue we can further troubleshoot your child's device by taking a remote session.

Thanks,
Norton Family Team.

Re: Windows 10 family Time limit reach can be bypass

I have a session on this laptop, I check now the date and time and it is fine. The last NTP sync was on 22/04/2021. I forced a NTP sync right now and I obtain the same date and time.

If there is a manually change of the date and time, does it creates something wrong in your side ?

I didn't see anything in windows logs.

Re: Windows 10 family Time limit reach can be bypass

Hi La Colle,

If the system date and time is accurate and if the Time extension request has not been approved, then the windows device should get locked. This is the expected behavior.
The only possibility of getting additional minutes is when child tries to login again after every lock and unlock or if the Norton Family service is tampered before the service starts again. Please monitor to see if any of this is happening in your child's device.
Even if you change the date/time manually (to a correct date/time), then our product will function properly. It will not work only when the date/time is improper. We recommend assigning standard user to your child so that they won't be able to change anything on the time related settings.

Thanks,
Norton Family Team!

I found how it is possible. right click on the task bar and then Show the desktop... That's all !!!!

That method is not my children method, so there is an another one.

Hi La Colle,

To understand the issue better and provide suitable options, it would be great if you could send us a screen recording showing the exact problem happening on your child's device.

Thanks,

Hi I am unable to create a video but I can explain step by step.

- Wait for Norton family screen PIN code

- press <CTRL><ALT><DEL>

- Launch task manager

- File -> launch a new task -> explorer <OK>

- right click on task bar --> Show desktop

and then you can do what you want.
