Windows 10, Spyware and unwanted software protection...

Hello everyone! I have this question:

I disabled Windows Defender by changing the registry key, creating a DWORD value that says DisableAntiSpyware, then I used the Norton Removal & Reinstall tool and everything went better but yesterday I noticed that if I go to Control Panel > System and Security > Security and Maintenance it says:

Network Firewall         On, Virus protection       On

And next should say "Spyware and unwanted software protection" but it doesn't appear! My Norton product says everything is fine. On Windows 8.1 I remember I didn't have any problems and also remember this thing about the Spyware and unwanted software protection being ON. My PC is protected? How this disappear? I disabled Windows Defender with regedit.exe because it was trying to keep active no matter I upgraded from Windows 8.1 with Norton.

Thanks in advance for your help...

René

Have you tried undoing the registry edit?  Norton will turn off Windows Defender automatically.  There is no need to use a registry modification.

Thanks BJM_!!! Here's mine, as you can see it says nothing about spyware and unwanted software, and I don't know if everything is ok.

SendOfJive, I did try it, but there's no diference, I disabled WD by regedit.exe because both, Norton and WD were active at the same time, actually WD was trying to scan my computer and I stoped it a few times, until I decided to change the registry... bad idea I think now... Do you think I'm protected? My Norton is up to date.

Thanks both for your answers!!

Re: Windows 10, Spyware and unwanted software protection...

Hello Rene

Windows 10 has something called Limited Periodic Scanning. Norton says to turn that off. Please see this link for directions on how to turn it off.

As long as your Norton Icon in task bar has the green checkmark, then you are protected.

Thanks.

Re: Windows 10, Spyware and unwanted software protection...

Thanks Floplot, I already have the Limited Periodic Scanning off, also my Norton icon has the green checkmark... I just wonder why something like the status for spyware and unwanted software protection doesn't appear anymore in my computer, I had it on Windows 8.1! I already deleted the DWORD value DisableAntiSpyware for WD. I did run Norton's Autofix and everything seems to be ok.

And yes BJM_, my W10 is 1607, do you think that's the reason I don't see a status for Spyware and unwanted software? But even if I don't see this my Norton product keeps this protection for my computer?

Thanks again!

René

Have the same on AU. Only "Firewall" and "Virus protection".
