Windows Defender Firewall

My laptop runs on W10. Windows has just installed an update and has informed me that Windows Firewall has turned off Norton Wi-Fi privacy because the laptop is in a private network. I thought Norton Security (which I have installed on my machine) was controlling all my security settings so I investigated as to how to switch off Windows Defender Firewall and found that Windows Defender Firewall should never be switched off even if another firewall is installed. I am confused now as I was under the impression that running more than one security suite would create a conflict and upset the running of the machine. Could someone possibly put me right please. Thank you.

Re: Windows Defender Firewall

The Windows Defender SERVICE needs to be enabled at all times. The actual Defender features like firewall and malware scans are disabled when a third party AV is installed.

What you will see is the Defender Security Center. But that just reports the security status on the computer. It does not provide any protection or scans.

I have not seen anything about Norton Wifi Privacy, NWP, being turned off. Maybe try restarting your computer again and test to see if the same thing happens.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
