wrong code/password/product

hi, i have norton internet security with 5 computers. Recently attempted to add a 4th, only to be told my product was 2008, and out of date. Contacted chat line who advised that the product code on my account was wrong, and gave me the correct code.  I have just checked, and they have not changed my account, so product code still wrong. I dont have another hour to waste on the chat line, and tried emailing them, but as usual, no reply. Any ideas welcoms. john

If a product code is valid it will work on any account - keys are not account-specific (which is why you don't want to share them with others).  So I am puzzled by "product code on my account was wrong, and gave me the correct code."  Is this the chat option you used?:

Hello

This customer is saying that the product code was incorrect, not the wrong account. If he had a product that was good for 5 computers, then it may not have been called Norton Internet Security since in 2008-NIS could only be used on 3 computers.

If it is good on 5 computers, the name was probably N 360 Multi Device and not NIS in 2008. If it was N 360 MD, it would have a different code number. He didn't mean the account was different. It is possible that he had the product code for NIS when in fact he had N 360 MD and therefore it would have a different code number. He is saying that instead of the code number for NIS, it should be the code number for N 360 MD. He just checked his account and they didn't change the code number for the product.

The user left out the words. "I have just checked, and they have not changed (the product code on) my account, so product code still wrong". SOJ, you misunderstood him because he left out a couple of words. That's my take of the situation.  My take of the situation may be incorrect.

what i am saying is, when i renewed they supplied a product code which worked fine for first 3 machines. The code which now appears on my account, is the old one, hence i cannot use my last two licences. I advised them on the chat line, they confirmed my code used for first three, is the right one, but have not changed it on my account, which still shows old one. I have emailed, but as usual, NO response. They are quick enough taking your money, but simply do not respond to emails. john

Have you tried activating the product on the devices by putting in the new key (you should do this on each device separately, not from your Norton account)?  I would think that would work.  Once you enter the product key on the new devices, it should show up on your account.

Are you using the key to activate Norton Internet Security, or the newer Norton Security? If you are activating the older Norton Internet Security, you will be limited to the 3 devices that originally came with that product. You will need to install the Newer Norton Security product on the remaining computer(s) to be able to take advantage of the last 2 activations.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Email support was stopped several years ago. That is why no responses back to your emails for support. There is now only chat support or phone support. Chat support usually takes less time and is also free. www.norton.com/chat  is the official chat link for customer support.
