Wrong internet provider

I joined an internet provider at the student accommodation where i live. Then i went online and accidently joined a similar sounding provider. Ever since then, sounds come from my computer that i cant silence. Shortly after, I received a message in polish on my email referring to "problems with my computer". Ran a scan, but sound persists. Any tips gratefully appreciated. I'm desperate! Thanks!

Re: Wrong internet provider

Hi Bill035:

What is your Windows operating system (if Win 10 or Win 11 include your version and build at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications), Norton product name and version and default browser?  Who is your "real" Internet provider (for example, does your student accommodations provide a free wireless connection to all students residing in the building), and when you connect to the internet are you sure that you're connecting to the correct router? If you aren't sure see the PC Magazine Device Connecting to the Wrong Wi-Fi Network? How to Change Its Connection Priority.

If you believe you've been infected by malware that isn't detected by a full system scan with your Norton antivirus I'd suggest running a second-opinion scan with Malwarebytes Free (available at https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download) to see if it find any threats that might have been missing by Norton.  If you aren't familiar with Malwarebytes see the hints for first-time users I posted on 10-Apr-2022 in George Matsukis' Removing McAfee's Safe Connect App From My Computer.

If none of the above suggestions helps please describe the sound you hear from your computer, and whether it is only heard when you restart your computer [e.g., when your computer is running POST (Power-On Self-Test) diagnostics of your hardware just before Windows is loaded, when you browse on the Internet, etc.). The spam email you received referring to "problems with your computer" might have nothing to do with your current problem and should be ignored, but let us know if you opened that email before it was deleted or clicked any links in that email that might have downloaded malware to your system.
