YTD Downloader PRO

I frequently require the ability to download YouTube material (legally!) for some of the work I do on YouTube.

I have hitherto always used the free YTD Downloader. As of today, this no longer works. When trying to reinstall it, it appears that Norton intervenes.

Looking on the net I saw that in the past Norton software clashed with some of the advertising features of the free version.

In order to avoid this (should it have become an issue again) I switched to the paid-for version: YTD Downloader PRO.

Well, here Norton intervenes again. This time a different message appears, but the end result is the same.

So right now I've paid for a program which Norton is making impossible to use, as it will not permit installation.

YTD is perhaps the most widely used software for anyone who needs to download YouTube clips. It's also quite a few years old.

So it's well established. It's therefore highly doubtful that it suddenly has turned out to be malware.

I could really do with some help here. I have work to do and I need to be able to download some material.

I never envisaged that my virus protection software would get in the way of my doing some work.

Regards,

Phantom Youtuber

Restore & exclude this file: is not the same as adding item(s) to Exclude from Auto-Protect nor the same as Exclude from All Detections.

WS.Reputation.1 threat

Norton reported the site as safe and it automatically downloaded YTDSetup.exe but when I went to run this it had vanished - IE said "might have been moved or deleted"
No Warning from Norton.
Repeated several times but the same thing happened.
When I looked at Norton Security History I find that Norton had detected and medium threat from WS.Reputation.1, and quarantined and then removed YTDSetup.exe

Please review: WS.Reputation.1 detection.

Files reported as WS.Reputation.1 may not necessarily be malicious, and may be a false positive detection. Should you be uncertain whether a file has been reported correctly, you may submit file to https://www.virustotal.com for second opinion scan with multiple antivirus engines.
If you believe a file has been mistakenly detected by WS.Reputation.1, you may submit a dispute at https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/.

Re: YTD Downloader PRO

FWIW ~ Items rated as a PUA - which does not mean malware. A PUA can download and install other software that might turn out to be, indeed, malicious. However, PUA can be installed at the user's discretion. The signature detection is to bring the file to the user's attention.

What some users consider a PUA, other users will not; what one AV company rates as a PUA, another will not.

In general, be more vigilant and discerning. PUAs in particular usually install with your consent, and your consent can often be implied when you take shortcuts like a default installation, fail to read all the installation options presented, fail to read Terms & Privacy & EULA.
