Re: BUG NPE Beta 6GUI missing after scan

This is a repeat of what I said on another thread.

Something to keep in mind, NPE is not designed to be a full system scanner. It is designed by default to allow scanning common load points. The ability to scan a folder is intended to do just that, a folder. That being said, this was a design change from 5.3 to 6.0. 5.3 limited to a single level of depth when scanning a folder. This was not good. So we allowed full depth of folder structure in 6.0. It does expose this weakness in the underlying architecture. I think this is a reasonable trade off as NPE would often not find obvious threats if they were just 2 levels deep in a folder scan.

If you want to scan a full drive, it is much better to use the full version of Norton Security to do such work.

Hope that helps explain why NPE hung during a drive scan.

We are adding some more aggressive log cleanup based on your giant log file.

Re: BUG NPE Beta 6GUI missing after scan

I do run N360 .

So what is the advantage of just scanning a folder.

I have to know where a virus is?

I believe in past versions I did run a drive scan through the interface  and correct me if I am wrong.

It was through the N360 start menu though.

Thank you for evaluating the huge file.

Will there be an updated version?

I think 300mb is a much better upload size.

Re: BUG NPE Beta 6GUI missing after scan

For NPE, we look at various load points on the system. A load point is a common location, like the startup folder, for example.

When you select a folder, the assumption is you think there is something fishy in that folder. Maybe you downloaded some cool new bits of software. Assuming you do not have N360 running, which would protect you, NPE could be used to scan that folder.

There will be regular updates once we release the 6.0 version.

Hopefully that answered your questions.
