Can’t save changes to title or notes on NPM iOS app. Is there a fix?

The NPM app on my iPhone and iPad won’t save a change to the title or notes on an item unless I change the username. There’s no problem making such changes in Firefox on my Windows desktop. I don’t always have access to the desktop, and I can’t add the extension to Firefox on my Apple devices.  Does anyone have a solution to this?

Refinement of the problem: It occurs only if there are two entries with the same user ID but different urls for which the top-level domain is the same (e.g., companyx.com). The app seems to interpret the two URLs as the same, whereas they are not. This “error” does not occur with the browser app running on Windows or macOS, just with the iOS and iPadOS apps, which don’t seem to allow installation of the browser app.

Before I can test, can you provide concise steps to duplicate the issue. Do not use real site names or usernames.

Re: Can’t save changes to title or notes on NPM iOS app. Is there a fix?

Sure, thanks.

Scenario A
1. There are 2 log-in entries in NPM for two different services from the same company. The urls are service1/companyx.com and service2/companyx.com.
2. Each entry uses the same username and password, but the title and notes differ for each.

3. I want to change the title for “service1” to “service 1a” using the iOS app.

4. I open the service1 entry for editing and type in the change.
5. I click the checkmark to save the change and get a message that says “Not Saved. Provided username already exists for this site. Please try a different username.” I get the same result if I try to change the note.

Scenario B

I check another entry in the iOS app with url service1/companyx.com but a different username and password. There is no second entry for this username and password. NPM accepts the change.

Scenario C

I try to create a second login entry for service2 under Scenario B. NPM won’t accept the entry.

Scenario D
I open the vault in a Firefox browser on my macOS or Windows device and try to make the changes in Scenarios A and C. NPM accepts the changes.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Re: Can’t save changes to title or notes on NPM iOS app. Is there a fix?

I had this problem, too. Browser plug-in wouldn't sync with iOS app if the changes were made from there, either.

Solution that worked for me:

1: On your iOS device "close vault" from the burger menu (top left).

2: Logout of your vault completely.

3: Swipe up the Norton app and remove from your recent used apps.

4: Login again. You'll notice there is a captcha that you need to fill in before logging in (not the case before).

After the above steps the app saves all changes I make. I think it may have to do with an update after that credential stuffing attack on Norton.

Hope the above helps resolve your issue, too.

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried it but unfortunately it didn’t work.

I tried Scenario A above and the iOS app behaved as it should. I was able to save a change to the title with no error messages. Maybe you could try uninstalling the NPM app, restart the device and then reinstall NPM and test again.

Thanks. I’ll try reinstalling and post the result.

Re: Can’t save changes to title or notes on NPM iOS app. Is there a fix?

I tried it on my iPhone—deleted both Norton 360 and NPM apps and deleted Safari Norton data, turned iPhone off and restarted, then loaded both apps back. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem. For the few logins in NPM where the URLs differ but are under a single top-level domain (e.g., service1.companyx.com and service2.companyx.com) and the username and password are the same, NPM won’t let me save any changes to title or notes field for either item. However, I can make the change without problem in Firefox on my Windows computer, so at least there’s a workaround. Any other suggestions, and has anyone else had this problem?
