Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

I posted this same question on February 16th, but have gotten no response. When I checked today, the post was closed.

Previous Post Below:

I still need a solution to this problem. I can't be the only experiencing this. (At least I hope not!)

Please describe the experience. Is AntiTrack not enabled on Firefox browser?

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

Norton AntiTrack is enabled and states I am protected some of the time. It may be enabled and protected one minute and not enabled and not protected minutes or hours after. Edge and Chrome stay enabled and protected all the time, at least as of now. The problem is that I prefer Firefox over the others. What I end up doing is checking my AntiTrack status prior to going on the web, which is time consuming and shouldn't be necessary. Sometimes it is enabled when I get on the web, but not when I recheck after I get off the web. I did a complete Norton system scan a few days ago and no threats found.

I found my original post: (Which went unanswered)

"I have Norton AntiTrack installed on my Windows 10 PC, but it often states Firefox is not protected. Chrome and Edge consistently show as enabled. I can check the Firefox status as protected, go on the Firefox browser, check again, and it is unprotected and wants me to enable Firefox protection again. I don't feel that I am getting the protection that I paid for, plus the fact that I don't feel that I can trust Norton AntiTrack to do what it is supposed to. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?"

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

The attached PDF file may help clear up my what I am saying.. I booted up this morning and had full AntiTrack protection. After going to a web site, I rechecked my AntiTrack and Firefox was unprotected. After reenabling Firefox protection, I went to a different web site, rechecked, and was unprotected once again. (To minimize the file size, I didn't include the protected screen shots between the two unprotected status's.) The problem must be something between AntiTrack and Firefox.

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

Thank you. This helps and must say is a new for us. Few follow up questions:

- When AntiTrack shows 2 browsers protected, what happens when you click on Enable Protection?

- what messaging shows up on when you click on AntiTrack extension in Firefox browser.

- What is the extension version on FF browser?

- FF browser version

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

When I click on Enable Protection it goes to a screen with the ability to remove the AntiTrack. Sometime have to enable it twice if it doesn't enable it the first time. I'm not really sure of what the screen that you are asking to see looks like but, I will have to send you a screen shot when I have to enable it again.

Firefox Version: 112.0.1 (64 bit)

AntiTrack Version according to my control panel: 2.0.0.1498  4/18/2023

I can't find the answer to your question "what messaging shows up on when you click on AntiTrack extension in Firefox browser". (I don't see that option when I am in Firefox.)

Hope this helps,

cv

(My AntiTrack just went out again. I don't know if this is the screen you want to see. This is the screen that appears when I click on "Enable Protection". See attached PDF.)

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

Thank you very much. I have my answers. Looks like the messaging on AntiTrack is incorrect because as per screenshot, it offers to remove extension when click on 'Enable Protection'.

We will try to reproduce this issue inhouse. One last question and a request.

How often this issue happens?

Are you available for a support session?

We will contact and gather logs when this issue happens again.

Please let me know.

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

It basically happens several times a day. I had a different experience this morning. I was already in Firefox when I checked my AntiTrack. It stated 2 browsers protected, but when I clicked "Manage", it stated all 3 browsers were protected, and not "Enable Protection". Go figure!

As far as a support session is concerned, if it involves control of my computer, I never do that. A friend of mine just got scammed by an email supposedly from Norton, but it wasn't. He gave them a lot of personal information and he is paying the price. I will be getting a new computer soon, as mine is not capable of a W11 update. I think I'll just sit tight for now and see how AntiTrack works on a new computer. I can also go to Edge if I want to.

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

No problem. I will rely on testing. Reported it to concerned Engineering Team to check Firefox behavior. From issue description and screenshots, this does appears to be a false positive messaging on UI so continue with Firefox or Edge. I will keep you posted if this is successfully reproduced.

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

An additional note: I checked AntiTrack this morning and Firefox was shown as not protected. I did not re-enable AntiTrack at that time. After closing out the Antitrack screen, I opened Firefox, checked AntiTrack again, and Firefox was shown as protected. There is something going on with Firefox and Norton AntiTrack compatibility or messaging. Thanks again for your help and hopefully Firefox and Norton AntiTrack can clear it up. I can live with the situation until I get my new computer. I'll recheck compatibility at that time and may re-post if necessary. (No reply necessary.)

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

I am having the same problem with the current version of Firefox. When I click on the "Sign In To Your Antitrack App" link, nothing happens. I tried reinstalling Norton 360, but there was no change.

Also, I can't seem to locate any Norton Antitrack app download link on My Norton.....

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

Hi @nychucky & @NealStockwell

I don't know if it can help you, but i hope ! For your information I had some difficulties when installing the extension on firefox to make Antitrack work.

The solution I found is to delete history, cookies and cache from Firefox.

And, since then everything works perfectly between Firefox and Antitrack!

Have a nice week end.

Cheers

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

I delete my history, cookies and cache from Firefox a few times a day, but I get the same inconsistency from AntiTrack. (I know it takes longer to get apps going, but I personally like to clear these items in a timely manner. Don't know if it makes you safer on the Web, but It's just my personal preference.) It takes awhile for the AntiTrack screen to show up, at least on my computer. At first I get a black rectangle on the screen, then it flashes, then the AntiTrack screen appears.

As far as I know, Norton is going to pursue the matter and try to find the reason for the problem.

Hi Guillaume1024,

As nychucky stated earlier, I also delete cache, cookies, and history every day and have tried that with no luck in resolving the issue.

Re: Why does Norton AntiTrack keeps unenabling Firefox?

It seems that Norton AntiTrack Just doesn't work well with Firefox. If I liked Edge or Chrome, I would change to one of them, but I really like the ease of using Firefox. Like I said before, I think we will have to wait for Norton and Firefox to straighten it out.

It was working for me in Firefox until recently.
