Cannot access play.google.com

Using Norton ConnectSafe, I am unable to access the domain "play.google.com".  The site is not blocked (i.e. it does not trigger the "Malicious website blocked!" error), it just fails to resolve.  If I change my DNS to 8.8.8.8, I am able to access the site with no problem.  Please update your DNS servers to allow name resolution for this popular web site.

FYI, I use addresses 199.85.126.20 and 199.85.127.20, and I make the change in my home router.

Thanks,
Steve Bassler

I am seeing the same as you do. I also have the same ConnectSafe settings as you.

Thanks, Peter.  I see you tagged Katie.  Is that sufficient to raise an official incident/request with Norton, or is there another/better process?

Re: Cannot access play.google.com

Hi Steve

Yes. My tagging Katie (a Norton Employee) will get some attention for this issue. And this @ feature is only available to Gurus and Employees.

Re: Cannot access play.google.com

Still no access for either play.google.com or music.google.com (which I believe gets redirected to play.google.com).  Again, they're not being blocked, they just don't resolve.

Is there any way to escalate this?

Thanks,
Steve

Whatever is going on, it is also causing a "DNS Client Events" warning notification to be posted into the System Event Log each time a Chromium based web browser (e.g. Chrome) is ran ...

Re: Cannot access play.google.com

It's not just Norton. Kaspersky had an issue with Google access, as well.

Re: Cannot access play.google.com

Problem fixed by switching from Norton's DNS servers to Google DNS.

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Hi F4E,

Was that observation made while still using the Norton DNS servers?

Hi F4E,

Hi, John. Yes, it was. Norton has acknowledged a problem, and switching to Google servers then allowed access to Google Play etc, as did using my ISP's dedicated DNS numbers.

Re: Cannot access play.google.com

I'm not sure I understand why the fact that Kaspersky is seeing the same problem is relevant.  Also, I stated up front that using Google's DNS allows me to access play.google.com.  The solution I'm looking for is not to use Google's DNS, but to fix Norton's DNS (and SafeConnect).

Is that solution in the works, and if so, when can we expect to see it?

Or are we saying somehow that this is Google's fault?

Re: Cannot access play.google.com

Hi, Steve. The point I was making is that it's not just Norton's DNS that has the issue, as Kaspersky had acknowledged on their support forum that they had a problem as well.

Norton is aware of the issue.

It's mind-boggling that this problem still persists after a week!

Yes - Thanks!

For me the last problematical date (using Norton DNS for play.google.com lookups) was 11/9/2015 - no apparent problems (for me with Google Play) since...
