Norton ConnectSafe blocking HTTPS

Lately i have been having issues with Norton ConnectSafe. From time to time Norton ConnectSafe will block websites (outlouk, facebook and gmail to name a few) Sometimes after a few minutes it will randomly work as ussual but then while opening an email it locks up giving me that the website is blocked for some weird reason. Trying to open it a few minutes later everything is fine again. It started as a annoying thing but now it has moved over to the battle.net app. When ever i want to go and play anything is will actually say the Norton ConnectSafe has blocked the action. Again annoying. Something similar is happening when i try to play World of Tanks. Similar as in one moment you can login fine. No problem what so ever and then it will go on endless loop of can not connect to the World of Tanks server. Scanning my pc does nothing. Everything is up to date and right now it is just starting to really piss me off.

Same here with https sites. I have removed Norton Connect Safe setting and now https sites open without any problem.
Will report the issue to Norton.

Which ConnectSafe settings are you using?

I am using the B level settings   .20  and am not seeing any issues with accessing any https sites.

Re: Norton ConnectSafe blocking HTTPS

FWIW I'm not using any of the Norton Browser Add-Ons so far as I know -- Tool Bar and Identity Safe for example -- and I'm getting real weirdies with https authentication eg on Bank of America if takes 10 - 12 seconds for the Identified by VeriSign to appear and the Password box to be released so you can enter the Password and not have it truncated.

Then even more strange to me anyway is that within the BoA website it goes out to VeriSign again as I move from one account to another of the several we have and even when clicking on the Sign Out button it does not accept the action and you have to wait for the ^ pointer of the Mouse to change to a finger pointer!

I don't think it's IE which is my standard browser since I see it in FF nor is it Windows 7 Home Premium since I see it in Windows 10CU Pro on the same hardware; both are 32 bit however not 64bit.

I have not yet found a contact method with the BoA to get someone who understands computing .......

It's partly/mostly Bank of America I'm sure since Citibank Credit cards are much quicker and store the password until VeriSign comes back.

Anyone with suggestions on this (apart from changing banks!

PS I'm sure I just saw this go out to VeriSign and back very quickly before coming back posted!

Re: Norton ConnectSafe blocking HTTPS

When you set up ConnectSafe, did you set it up in your computer or your router?

Either way, you can find what settings are being used by opening a Command Prompt as administrator, and running the command   ipconfig /all   Note the space between g and /.

Scroll down to your active network adapter, and look for the DNS settings. Tell us what you see there in the form of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

ConnectSafe is a DNS service you set up on your computer or in your router. There is no add on to your browsers. So unless you have set up ConnectSafe, this thread's issues should not have anything to do with your issue.

Your issues with Bank of America may be site related as you see this on different browsers.

Here is the thing i never set up ConnectSafe. It just started a few days ago and it is really starting to piss me off. Website that get blocked for no reason. Games that will not work because they can not connect to the servers because of being blocked randomly. The DNS is 192.168.0.1

Re: Norton ConnectSafe blocking HTTPS

Last few days I've been having massive problems with "Your connection is not private" error messages in Google Chrome (Windows 10). I tried everything recommended online but it is still happening. I have had to abandon Chrome and switch to IE. I am also getting numerous "Malicious Website Blocked" messages from Norton Connectsafe on both browsers, exactly as the original poster described. Now I suspect my issue is with Norton and not Chrome. Yesterday I spent an hour on a blog before Connectsafe flagged it as malicious. Surely if it was in fact malicious it would have been blocked straight away? HTTPS sites are most affected. What is going on?

Re: Norton ConnectSafe blocking HTTPS

Sorry to double post, but now I can't go on Twitter (using IE, Win10) Got the following message;

"There is a problem connecting securely to this website

The security certificate presented by this website is not secure.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website."

I need a solution, asap.

OK Thanks for clarifying that; I thought it was likely to be a browser add-on like the WebSafe (?) thing in the toolbar.

I set up Norton ConnectSafe settings in my Windows 7 system following the instructions in this page: https://dns.norton.com/configurePC.html - However the page does not contain the instructions for Windows 10 system therefore I do not know what steps you should follow - FYI some time ago I already alerted Norton that instructions for Windows 10 are missing  on that page.

Anyway,  the problem is back and now I cannot access https sites again.  I have therefore removed (again) the Norton Connect Safe setting and now https sites open without any problem.

Really annoying - I hope this issue is fixed quickly.

When you try to access warthunder.ru, Norton ConnectSafe blocks access to this site. Other sites are also blocked. Norton ConnectSafe settings at the C-level. IE11 and Mozilla browsers were used. The detailed message indicates that the site is secure. When will this problem be fixed?

Re: Norton ConnectSafe blocking HTTPS

Norton fixed this error for me remotely.

This was the solution.

Go to Settings - Networks - Change Adapter Options - WiFi Connection - Right Click for Properties - uncheck the box marked "Microsoft Network Adaptor Multiplexor Protocol"

My laptop is running smoothly again, after 3 days of frustration.

I hope this works for everyone with this issue.

M.Hark

I just checked my settings and that setting was already unchecked. From the description for that setting it is related to load balancing and fail over when you have multiple network adapters in your system. Had you turned this on in the past?

How long will the sites be blocked? Stop fooling users! The problem exists, and Norton does not solve it! If you can not fix the database server failure on your own, invite the one who can do it!

and i don't care what you will edit this time or even delete it but he is an internet troll starting arguments off topic instead of focusing on the main issue if i were you i would get rid of such idiots because mark my word despite his activities he is going to make a lot of problems if he isn't already did, again he is by definition  an internet troll , google it and look at his post

and i think that your dns servers got hacked unblea to mack a scure conntection and redirecting ssl certificate is not small mistake it's a disaster it mean that someone in the way is doing MITM attack and that's the truth that you don't want to say

god knows what else information got hacked but from this moment i can't trust symantec to protect my information thank god it happen now i was about to mack the payment for wifi privacy

Re: Norton ConnectSafe blocking HTTPS

@engineer77 we certainly allow criticism and theories on our community. We just don't allow personal attacks on other community members. Perhaps I'm reading Peterweb's comments in a different way than you, as I don't see anything provoking in them, only informative. It's important to note, in forums, that tone is sometimes hard to read. While you may have drawn a negative inference from Peterweb's posts, my personal experience with forums and with Peterweb would suggest otherwise.

I know this issue is frustrating for you, and I'm very sorry. We're working to resolve it quickly. Please keep the tone civil. Thank you.

Gosh, almost afraid to try to help.

Why not google search.dnsadvantage.com and you'll see that Norton Connectsafe is working as intended and trying to warn you of a problem.

I'm going by your other post if others here didn't see it.

Re: Norton ConnectSafe blocking HTTPS

As a followup, easy fix would be to run Malwarebytes.

The manual fix would be to uninstall dnsadvantage and then uninstall the associated addon or extention from each and every browser you have on the system.

Yes, the issue is still occurs, and seems to be getting worse. I cannot log in to most websites using https (youtube, facebook, my bank account etc).

How can it stay unresolved for so long? I haven't noticed any changes, which suggests Norton is not actually doing anything.

Can you please provide us with some updates / deadlines?
