Norton Core Update

After my Core went Ape S**t again on 1/7/2018 I removed it from my network as unusable.  The 226 firmware was dropped by Symantec and installed on 1/19 and I put the Core back into service.

I'm happy to report that since that time I've had no apparent router problems.

When do I get a my beta tester check from Symantec?

If the Core continues to be reliable I may renew my subscription after reviewing any new options with functionality similar to the Core.

The Core "Experience"  from a large experienced company as Symantec left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've kept my ultra-reliable trouble-free Asus as backup.

Occam When do I get a my beta tester check from Symantec?

Waiting for mine to arrive as well lol. The complimentary one year subscription for Core Security was put into place I believe for reasons that were known before Core went live. FWIW!! We Guru's are simple customers as the rest of those out there with Core, AND other Norton products. Try being in our shoes while trying to troubleshoot and assist with what cannot physically be seen for Norton.  A FIRM believer of quality over quantity I am.

Cheers

Re: Norton Core Update

Or at least a free t-shirt. Something like

"I fooled around with my Core for hours and hours so you wouldn't have too"

"It's not a Core until we say it's a Core"

"I was flogged by Symantec until the Core worked"

feel free to add your own ...

Occam Supposedly new firmware has been released to a "limited audience", the release notes are here. As of this post I haven't received the update.

Cheers

Re: Norton Core Update

I had to take the Core out of service again. Got tired of my Echo losing connection ten times a day and my SmartThings hub going AWOL a couple times a week.

I'm now beginning a search for a router from a company that knows how to build reliable reconfigurable routers that can provide some of the same features as the Core. My old trusty reliable ASUS RT-N66U is back in service until I find something.

Bottom line: Core good idea done poorly. I could live (barely) without a web interface and fine grained control but not the unreliability. The Core features just aren't worth the headache

Norton should have provided a local LAN web interface with an advanced mode that provides the kind of control and configureability that most modern routers have been providing for over a decade.

I've probably used ten different routers and never had the problems I've had with the Core

I might fire the Core back up in the future but right now I need a break from Core Hell and complaining family.

Re: Norton Core Update

Hello

I have not received the new Core Firmware either. I have not seen any comments about this new firmware as far as fixing something or breaking something from the Core users who have received the new Firmware.  Perhaps they are giving their feedback to customer support  There should also be new Apps to go with the new firmware, but no word yet of any new Apps.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: Norton Core Update

Since put I the old trusty ASUS RT-N66U back into service  on 3/30/2018 everything has been smooth and reliable. Loaded it up with Asuswrt-Merlin firmware and using fast reliable CloudFlare DNS ... life is calm again.

Anyone need a second  Core? Cheap?
