"Threats Detected" when launching Sniper Elite 5 in Steam

On Nov 29th 2022, Rebellion software updated Sniper Elite 5 to the latest build.  Since then, whenever I launch it from within Steam, Norton 360 displays the following:-

Threats Detected "Sniper Elite 5 D3D12_Retail_Submission does not have a valid signature."  It gives details of the file as "sniper5_dx12.exe"

Norton 360 reports less than 100 users have seen this file.

This file is used for accessing multi-player servers as far as I am aware.  It might be a false positive caused by the recent update build to the game, but I don't want to allow it access in case it is something else.

I have searched everywhere online but cannot find any further information.

Has anyone else experienced this behaviour with Norton?  Any information gratefully received.

Report a suspected incorrect detection to Norton

Please tell us what Norton is telling you regarding this event.

Hello Vortex25. If you are getting this update from a source OTHER THAN STEAM, isolate it. Open your steam library. Find the game title you are trying to use, right click "properties". Verify the game files installed so as to allow steam itself to validate the validity of your game files and replace them directly from steam if needed.

Thank you for the advice.  Yes, I verified the files.  The update was automatic from within the Steam platform.  All files validated okay.

Locate and copy the file "sniper5_dx12.exe", paste it to your desktop. Then go on over to Virustotal as Guru bjm_ suggested and have the site screen the file for you. I CAN get the file via a torrent link but I am not going that route due to the security risks that are involved. Please let us know what the Virustotal results are so we can assist further.

Only 1 security vendor flagged it as a Trojan - this suggests a false positive.  Norton 360 and Malwarebytes on my system scanned it as clean.

Think I might delete the file and then re-verify local files via Steam and redownload, but seeing as the source is Rebellion, have they released a dodgy file? If so I would have expected more people to have had the same issues.

Thanks for the post-back. Please let us know what your findings are with this update re-install. I to am an avid gamer, any feedback found will go a long way helping the community here and gaming alike if the issue here manifests itself on other users devices.
