SAFE Online Movie/TV websites (such as Tubi)?

Hello,

I used to subscribe to HBO/Showtime/Cinemax (and, of course, my beloved Netflix) when I had more money to work with.

These days, as a senior citizen (81 yrs old) I have to save up for an assisted living home. A nursing home is even more expensive.

I am also in the process of downsizing/packing up/moving (all stressful).

So, maybe there are people on these forums who are aware of online Movie/TV websites, such as Tubi, that are for FREE, yet at the same time also a SAFE web page (ergo NO malware).

I thank you for having taken the time to read my post & for responding! ;o)

Re: SAFE Online Movie/TV websites (such as Tubi)?

Kudos for asking, David!

I can't really help you since I don't watch movies etc on TV (or anywhere else) although since I have Amazon Prime still I do use some of their free stuff, mostly sports but recently I've started watching some "Reacher" since I enjoyed all the books.

On safety -- I would say that for some reason I am getting a lot of email that spoofs some of my genuine sources including one today I must investigate one that says it is from Medicare but does not smell right and there's been a bunch of "You have won a free prize" ones that must have been triggered by something I did.

I have a feeling that those are more dangerous to me than any other risk.

But YMMD !

Hugh,

You are ever so kind, and generous (my first Kudos), for responding and sharing your experience! ;o)

I too get a great many "You Won something!" (even though I DID NOT participate), hence I am VERY skeptical. This happens, most often, over the phone (ergo I call screen/let the call go to my digital answering machine...if I DO NOT recognize the phone number/know who is calling). There have been various scams over the phone (including a phishing/Social Security scam...male caller claimed to be SSC, yet only asked me questions rather then answering mine...I hung up!).

I, thankfully, have an AT & T phone (large display) that alerts me regarding SPAM phone calls (that phone was worth every penny).

"but does not smell right," Yup! (me as well) Medicare/Medicare Supplemental Insurance/Social Security...etc...etc...etc

I am sorry that this is happening to you as well, yet at the same time you fortunately realize its "hinky!'

'Wishing you a pleasant day in Florida, Hugh!

Most of my spam calls are still coming over the house-phone so I just let them ring -- they show up on my TV in the top corner when it is on -- and if they don't leave a message after the invitation then they go to the top of the list!

When I've a moment I often check the number with Nomorobo although I have not installed that on anything.

On the You have won, the give-away I see is that the email reply (or noreply) address is clearly bogus .... but of course you have to know enough about how things work to know that this is so!

And a pleasant day to you in your neck of the woods!

Hugh,

"Amazon Prime still I do use some of their free stuff, mostly sports but recently I've started watching some "Reacher" since I enjoyed all the books."

I never read any of the books by Lee Child, yet I did watch the movie "Jack Reacher" (starring Tom C and Rosamund Pike). I liked the plot, like action/thriller genre, yet I also admire british actress Rosamund Pike (she was fantastic in Gone Girl).

Since SA is retired U.S. Navy I took a closer look at Tom Clancy Rainbow Six (Siege) on YouTube.

YouTube has come a long way from cats playing the piano (to greater diverse content). There are a large number of free movies which you can watch on YouTube, but you will have to put up with commercial interruption (as in the early days of Hulu).

Wishing you a, "Good Day" in Florida!

Hi david S.:

You might want to check out Paramount / Viacomm's Pluto TV free streaming service at https://pluto.tv/ (no account required but supported by ads).  I haven't tried it myself but Paramount has been airing lots of ads on TV here in Canada lately to promote this service.

For further information see Pluto TV: App, Channels, Guide and How to Activate on tomsguide.com and Pluto TV Review on PCMag.com.

Tom's Guide has some other suggestions at The Best Free Streaming Services in 2022.

Imacri,

THANK YOU ever so much for having taken the time to read my post and, of course, for coming up with a great suggestion! ;o)

I shall be sure to look into Tom's Guide (looks very promising).

Thank you, once again, for doing a good deed! ;o)

Hugh,

I wanted to send you a quick note (before I become to overwhelmed with the whole downsizing/packing/moving process)! :o)

I DO hope that you have the opportunity to enjoy the upcoming holiday, Hugh. I am somewhat melancholic because my late German wife always made a big effort (in terms of decorations) for the holidays (and cooking), hence these last few years things have been much more humble.

I shall be spending Christmas day with my Niece (who is big on Christmas decorations/baking and cooking up a storm).

"Merry Christmas, Hugh!" (and if you don't hear from me, because there is nothing major wrong with my HP laptop, ALSO "Happy New Year!')

Oh don't be silent just because everything is working as it should ...... Ha Ha Ha .... do let us know when that arrives!

I do know what you are talking about with downsizing and and missing how things used to be. My wife was in a wonderful long term care unit for nearly five years during each year was a little different to the previous one but we had to say "It is what it is" and accpt the changes. When I say "we" it really boiled down to my next door neighbor, a retired RN, who had become Dottie's friend when they moved in several years before Dottie had her accident -- she tripped over one of those concrete blocks on parking lots which they had put across where there was a step down on a raised walkway and across the pathway ..... hit her head badly and that triggered the Aphasia like a road-block between her words in her brain and the mouth to speak them. Dreadful for someone as good a communicator as she was.

So the end for her was a wonderful release for her and indeed for all those that knew her.

And now there is dealing with the new life. I am able to stay on in the house -- two bedroom in a Deed Restricted Community that works wonderfully well since it's run by the residents volunteering. But I do have to clear an enormous accumulation of junk. paperwork and so on.

But as you must be finding although the physical person has gone she is just as much present and part of my life as, say, my son who was born and lived in England ..... a dual national from his French mother, my first wife, since the French operate under the Code Napoleon!

So please stay in touch as you move on one step at a time.

I think it is possible for private messages to be exchanged between Forum members but I'm not too certain how it works!

I'll wish you "Well over the Feasts" to adapt a saying used by my late French Father-in-law. Don't be afraid to enjoy them.

Hugh
