Bios vs Uefi and Norton Recovery.

Lenovo laptop using Uefi, with Win 8.1. NOT booting. To use Norton Recovery, on USB flash, set to Legacy boot. Got to choosing latest Recovery backup, on external USB HD. Got message that couldn't recover Uefi to Bios system. Recovery was done Dec 2022, with latest updates. If I do Chkdsk, All ok till gets Read error with Journal $J. Boots with Win 8.1 install, but can't repair or refresh. Takes hour or more to get some of these windows up (Recover, Win 8.1 CD boot, Hirens). Tried Bootrec items. Fixmbr seems to complete. Fix boot says nothing to find. Built-in Onedisk recovery loads files, but NOTHING more. If Norton Recovery flash boots, and I get to Command prompt, can I get to Arecovery on external drive, and will it recover C drive, wifi or bios? C is partition on Tb drive. Part List shows C as "raw". Others as Ntfs. Been trying LOTS of things. Spinrite 8 for example.

Re: Bios vs Uefi and Norton Recovery.

The Norton backup feature will not allow you to recover a full drive. It only backs up data files. You would have needed to use a disc imaging software to create an image that you could restore a complete drive.

Re: Bios vs Uefi and Norton Recovery.

This is from Norton Recovery. Not Norton Backup. Said I was going to be doing an IMAGE recovery, so, Backup files. Problem going from Bios to Eufi. No choice of Which Files you want to recover.. Just which IMAGE backup file do you want to use. No directories or file choice windows. Nothing on Recovery choices to fix Journal Usn problems. Fix Eufi.

Re: Bios vs Uefi and Norton Recovery.

My mistake. I see now you are referring to the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool.

Had you run this tool before to create the Bootable rescue media? As I understand it, the tool does not do the work itself. I just helps you create a bootable media you can use to get back into your system to run diagnostics.

I'll leave you to those with actual experience with the tool.
