Norton turned off my product before renewal

How dare Norton turn my product off 3 months before the renewal date, trying to force me to pay them something now. This is predatory capitalism at its finest. Then they want my browsers to accept all cookies just to chat with them. I'm so sick of corporations these days; doing whatever they want whenever they want. This is MY machine, not theirs. All of them acting like they paid for my equipment. Software runs on devices, not the other way around.

See if you can open the classic 360 interface by right clicking on the system tray icon and click on Open Norton 360. Then click on Help > Subscription Status to have your product sync with the subscription servers.

That did NOT send me to a sync screen … like I said, it’s sending me to a BUY screen. I may not renew this because of Norton’s bully tactics trying to get me to pay something today, not in 3-5 months. Just found out my subscription should be available until November. Don't even know why they're saying September. Pffffffffffff...

Very tired of these corporations who don't follow any rules whatsoever. Forcing us to sue them, because the BBB (or Attorney General) doesn't do anything either.

What does your Norton Account report at www.my.norton.com .  Click on the user icon at the top right and then click on Manage My Subscriptions.   Find your current subscription and see what the expiry date shows.

If the Account still shows an active subscription a reinstall of your 360 should resolve the subscription issue. Using a Windows admin user account, download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from    www.norton.com/nrnr  .   Be sure to use the Advanced Options > Remove only.   Then restart your computer again and download a fresh install of your 360 from your Norton Account.

Re: Norton turned off my product before renewal

What Norton says and what my receipt says are 2 totally different things. They're showing the monthly amount, when I turned around and paid for a year that they're not showing. Doesn't matter. This is NOT September or November. I would do all that, but my passwords work and I don't have time to have this product do nothing while trying to solve this problem. I'm not uninstalling everything. My computer was down for 3.5 weeks and I have other things to do, including a lengthy backup in case this stupid product takes my computer out. I'm entering in a BBB complaint and if my computer ends up with a virus because of this, they'll be paying a lot of money to replace it in a law suit. Tech support isn't tech support and they don't know what they're doing. I've never had a virus, spyware, or malware in my life and Norton will be solely to blame. I've had PC's since PC's were invented, Peter.

Re: Norton turned off my product before renewal

You just added another piece to the puzzle. When your device is not connected to the internet for over one or two weeks, the subscription status drops out and you need to verify your subscription.

If you are not able to use the Subscription Status as described above, something else you can try is getting the product key for your current subscription from your Norton Account. Then from the classic interface, click on Help > Enter Product Key. Enter the key there and that should reactivate your installation.

Re: Norton turned off my product before renewal

Unfortunately, I don't see 'Enter Product Key' anywhere. Sneaky enough, someone suddenly made my product active. Still has the wrong date and doesn't match my receipt. I can deal with that later. All this fussing got it activated again. I've done nothing but correspond in here. They shouldn't arbitrarily deactivate protection that was paid for, no matter how long it's off the net. Geesh! I had enough problems getting my computer up and running again. Thanks for hanging in here with me, Peter. Ciao

Re: Norton turned off my product before renewal

Are you opening the older classic interface, not the new My Norton interface? Right click on the Norton icon in the system tray and click on Open Norton 360. That gets you the options I was describing. This is what you should see. Clicking Help brings up the other options I noted.

As it has activated again, it sounds like after your 3 weeks without internet connection that LiveUpdate may have run, connecting to the subscription servers and reactivating your 360.

As for your different dates. Where are you seeing the different dates? The Date in your Norton Account is the one that determines your subscription's expiry.  You mention a receipt showing a different date from your subscription. Are you sure you are not looking at the date of payment, or does it specifically give a subscription expiry date? Is this receipt from Norton or another retailer? If from Norton, was it a renewal, or a purchase of a new product key? The renewal would extend the original subscription expiry date by one year. If you purchased a new product key from Norton, that subscription is activated on the day the payment is made. It does not get added to any existing subscription.

Re: Norton turned off my product before renewal

From the time I started paying for this product, I was paying monthly. That subscription date is September 2022 the last time. I turned around in November 2022 and paid for an entire year. THAT isn't showing up anywhere. I've got the receipt and stupid chat won't show up to discuss this with Norton. I made an exception for cookies on that site, but the Chat button won't activate. Man, am I tired. I have better things to do than screw around with poor web development sites. No phone number that works. Both Firefox & Chrome won't initiate Chat. This kind of thing is going on all over the country, no matter which business. In lieu of phones, they're dropping the ball on browsers.

Curious, paid who?

I called the (833) phone number on the receipt.  No joy.

The receipt looks like an email from Quickbooks / Intuit Inc.

Maybe, you run QuickBooks.  IDK

~ My topic is not listed above -> I still need help -> Sign In -> Chat Now / View Phone Number

  • In Chat dialog click "Manage my account" -> click "Something else" -> type "Live Agent" -> until you see "I am transferring you to a specialist for further assistance".

What's your geo-location/country?  Are you United States?
Maybe, I can post Norton Support phone number, if you want.

Re: Norton turned off my product before renewal

As bjm_ asks, who did you pay for this subscription. There is not a single Norton logo on your receipt and that price is quite high for a one year subscription, so it is definitely not directly from Norton? Sounds like a scam.

If you purchased from an email offer, if you still have that email (maybe in your trash folder) you can check the sender's address against this Norton Support article.  Is this email from Norton legitimate?

Re: Norton turned off my product before renewal

I thought I paid them directly. The logo doesn't always show up in my emails for other reasons, and yes it does seem high. I just closed on a house, so a lot was going on that month. I have no idea how I got to that price. I can barely remember what happened yesterday, let alone a year ago. I don't save deleted emails. I will have to find it at my bank to see exactly who was paid; if that even shows up. I usually go onto the website, not follow links through emails & promotions. If links don't take me onto the website, I do NOT pay from an email. I been around this industry for a lonnnnnng time, but so much was going on in November 2022, I could've slipped up. I did look at that email address curiously before attaching it here ... Quicken??? I used to work with them indirectly. Trust & believe I'll get to the bottom of it before September. I've got too much going on right now and will get back to this after I replace this hardware.

Re: Norton turned off my product before renewal

A Norton receipt would not come from Quickbooks. It would just be a straight email from one of the Norton email addresses in the link I gave above.

If you purchased from a 'reputable' retailer, it is possible that they might use Quickbooks for their receipt emails. But that price still looks like a scam. They may have registered your product and you had access to the subscription, but they way overcharged you.
