Was this an email or a pop up message? 

If an email, check the sender's email address against this information.   Is this email from Norton legitimate?

If a pop up, were you using your browser at the time? It could have been a malformed ad on a page you were viewing.

Please say you did not click on any links in whichever message you saw.  Only log into your Norton Account, or any other online account, by manually going to the web site for that account.

From your description I would say it was a phishing attempt to gain password and other confidential info. Does not sound like a Norton prompt.

If you did enter any info I would go back and change all passwords and other info immediately.
