I will never renew with Norton ever again

I saw people in the forum complaining about Norton intrusive desktop ads which I was trying to ignore for a while but enough is enough I'm really sick and tired of those persistent ads that are on par with lop.com ads. But that wasn't enough, Norton took this whole intrusive ads malpractice to a whole new level now my YouTube app on my phone is constantly spammed with Norton adverts and every free app I have in my phone shows Norton ads all the time. And I'm also sick and tired of Norton's disgusting scams when they send an email to me asking to buy new subscription for £120 and on the website the same plan is £35. This is crossing all the red line and it is time to abandon this madness and this total pile of rubbish of a program.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

I do feel for you, my 79 year old mother is constantly phoning me to come round and check her computer because of these adverts. Three of four times a week she gets these pop up alerts that look like "serious problems" that demand "immediate attention". They're just links to go BUY THIS, BUY THAT!

She has Norton 360....... the "360" makes you think "complete" and "all encompassing" doesn't it? It's Norton 180 more like, looking at the gaps in it's circle of protection. I regret buying it for her.

I could have used one of the licences for that Norton 360 on my own PC, but choose to fork out more for a BullGuard AV product instead, taking advantage of a 3 yrs subscription for the price of 1 offer. No way was going to even touch Norton with an exceremental stick, even at no extra cost.

Guess what happened a few months later?

"GREAT NEWS!" BullGuard AV for Gamers is now going to become NORTON for Gamers. Norton took BullGuard over.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

Thanks for the reply JPM. It really is questionable and stupid when an antivirus/internet security program does exactly what it tries to prevent other programs from doing. I've made a final decision to abandon Norton completely and subscribe to one of its competitors and so far so good, no annoying desktop, YouTube, mobile ads.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

I found this forum when searching where to leave feedback with Norton because I have the exact above issues. Continuous ads to purchase ad-ons such as privacy monitor, computer tune up, drive update, online tracking, utilities ultimate, etc., which should be included in the high annual cost of subscription. Agreed that (ironically) they appear to be doing exactly what they say they are protecting you from. I also have a 78 year old husband who is constantly calling me asking what he should do everytime a Norton ad comes up. Another issue, especially as a senior on pension, when on auto renewal, you pay the premium price even when a special price is advertised elsewhere.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

Hello Wilda, The price they asked me to pay isn't auto renewal price. Here is the email I got from Norton Dear Norton Customer, Your Norton subscription will expire on 12.08.2023. To avoid a lapse in your protection, you can subscribe today. Your price will be £ 119.99 for the 1st year, see details below. Don't worry, you won't lose any of the remaining days in your current subscription. Thank you for being a valued Norton customer They auto renewal is £125. If you go to their website the same plan is advertised for £34.99 Now tell me this isnt a scam. They think that people who've been using their products for a long time are desperate and dont know any better. So they try their best to take advantage of them. Do not waste your hard earned money on this pile of rubbish. There are tons of other security programmes that are far better than Norton and without the horrific malpractices.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

Me too!

I just want to add that I hate how Norton automatically makes shortcuts that appear on the screen. Also how Norton chooses to try and change your browser to Edge.

I have tried to contact Norton support to find out how to remove these intrusive Norton settings. Basically there is no support. So called chat does not exist. Unlike Bullguard, there is no way to send emails requesting technical support and there is no online support portal. BG was great to contact and gave more or less immediate support, answering emails and having a portal for you to seek help. Issues would be resolved quickly.

It seems we can only support each other on this community. Maybe Norton will listen.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

Thanks for the info and update MJW. So on top of being a spammer it is also a browser hijacker. I'm really worried now about our data and how Norton is handling data especially that it blatantly forces users to use cloud backup to upload data. I am just going to stay as far away from Norton as I can. There is no customer support in Norton, everyone tried that and you will never ever get anything useful from them that's if you get a response at all

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

Again I feel for MJW as well. I too was on Bullguard, until the "GREAT NEWS!" (my ass) came that Bullguard was to become Norton.

It's started constantly nagging me with pop-ups to "finish setting up Norton extensions for Microshit Edge".

1) I don't want Edge. (And just try uninstalling it guys!)

2) I don't want this reminder every 30 minutes. It also interrupts any game I'm in the middle of becuase it drops back to Windoze. Often crashing the game.

I also have Malwarebytes, it too is a bit of bugger for pop-ups these days, but they don't crash games or drop to windows.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

I fully agree. There are already various threads on this forum all complaining about notifications that are no more than adds to buy useless products. As a long time customer, for me Norton had a high reputation. No more.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

This is getting disgraceful. I wonder what trading standards would have to say about it.

My mother is now being told she will be charged £110 for another year's subscription to Norton. It's the full Norton Deluxe all singing all dancing as well. The one with 10 licences, there's only 2 used. One her computer, the other my dad's old laptop - and he died 5 years ago!

Looking through her account she was on the cheaper 5 licence Norton, but then suddenly seemed to have been "upgraded" to the 10 licence. Of course, she has no idea about any of this happening. So Norton have shoved her onto a more expensive package without her even realising!

Yet for NEW mugs, I mean customers...... it's £34.99!

I am now getting alerts from Norton to "upgrade" my current ex-Bullguard AV to "Norton 360" for NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! But then it's £89.99 a year after and the same for already existing mugs.... er I mean customers ....... I've still two years left on the ex-Bullguard....... fu Norton........ stick it up your arse. I'm not paying an extra £89.99 next year even if this one is free.

I've also noticed that any thread mentioning this very dubious "new vs existing mugs" pricing policy get locked immediately. Norton don't want this issue discussing. I thought the UK government were putting a stop to this kind of ripoff pricing.

Re: I will never renew with Norton ever again

Hello jpm, the first thing you should always do is to disable autorenewal. Second is to always check the prices on their website and never ever accept the prices they send you by email. Third and this is the most important point is to uninstall Norton from every device you have and uninstall any programme related to Norton and look for an alternative, there are tons that are a lot better than Norton. I personally moved to another software and very happy with the new one I'm using. I read in forums users of BitDefender complaining about the similar stuff like Norton so that would not be my first recommendation.

Maybe, you still have two years left with Norton.
Has your BullGuard migrated to Norton?
Have you checked your Norton account for Subscription Ends On date?
Were you on automatic renewal with BullGuard?
Note: if you do not want automatic renewal.  Please cancel automatic renewal and remove payment details.

Yes. If you have a BullGuard automatically renewing subscription, it is migrated to an equivalent Norton automatically renewing subscription, at the same price as your BullGuard subscription. Rest assured; your protection will continue uninterrupted through the duration of your subscription period.

Your subscription’s length will also not change – all remaining days left on your current BullGuard subscription are kept and transitioned to your Norton subscription.

If you are still on BullGuard protection, we recommend that you migrate to Norton at the earliest. For instructions, see Migrate your BullGuard protection to Norton. Your Norton subscription will renew automatically as long as your billing details are up to date in my.norton.com.

Here are a few things you should know if you stop your subscription from automatically renewing:

  • Your subscription will continue through the end of your already paid subscription term, after which it will end and not automatically renew.

  • It typically takes a few hours from your request for the change to take effect.

  • Any benefits associated with automatically renewing subscriptions may end when you stop your subscription from automatically renewing.
