Norton Security Ultra causing laptop to run hot and slow.

My Acer Aspire 5 running Windows 10 has started running hot and slow. When checking Task Manager I find 100% disk being used and almost the same amount of memory. I check background processes and find Norton is the culprit. What can be causing this? It comes and goes.

Hello. Please post a screenshot of what you are seeing so we also can see the same. Here is how: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-post-image-forums-0

I use Norton Security Ultra on most all my machines, I haven't seen the issue you are seeing to date. Looking at the specs for your laptop, it shows as having an SSD drive. Norton, uses "system calls" aka event triggers in task scheduling to perform certain functions that Windows Defender has disabled when 3rd party antiviral software is installed. Trim and re-trim of your SSD ( solid state drive ) is one of those. Check your Norton settings as shown below for trim/re-trim:

Note: TRIM support for SSDs is enabled by default, and is recommended to always keep TRIM support enabled. If disabled, you risk the SSD getting defragged instead of optimized (TRIM).

Disable these settings in Norton settings and reboot.

Re: Norton Security Ultra causing laptop to run hot and slow.

I also use software that is available for the specific manufacturer of the drive installed. I disable the Windows Trim box and enable the software to TRIM on a set schedule that fits my usage needs. Hope this helps.
