Full scan android

My Android 9 tablet gets invaded by unwanted sites downloaded by Chrome. How can I run a full scan, is this even possible ?  The Norton is an additional licence from the Norton 360 deluxe originally downloaded to my Windows 11 desktop.

Re: Full scan android

On Android, there is only one scan. There is no Smart Scan.

Assuming the site is free to use, they usually have ads to pay for their servers, etc. What sites are getting loaded while you are on that site?

What device and Android version are you using?

Do you have a link to the adblock app you are using? Are you sure it is active in Chrome?

Re: Full scan android

Just pull down on the main 360 Android interface to initiate a scan of the device.

What you describe about unwanted sites downloaded by Chrome sounds like you are getting redirected by malformed ads on a site you are visiting. What kind of sites are opening up on you? Try installing an ad blocker app like AdBlock Plus, or Ublock Origin. That should stop any unwanted redirects.

Re: Full scan android

Thanks Peterweb

I have done scans but can't find how to change from smart scan to full scan or even if this should be possible.  The site that I am on when the unwanted downloads appear is Bridgebase online.  Online bridge is virtually all I use the tablet for and the problem has only recently started.  I already have adblock.

Re: Full scan android

Thanks again Peterweb

It clarifies the situation to know there is only one sort of scan - I shall not keep looking for full scan.  Indeed it does not call it "smart" scan but as it works like the smart scan on the desktop, I imagined it was the same.

The adblock is the one with the green square with the white shield with a green tick. It says it applies to Firefox.  It doesn't mention Chrome but I have deactivated Chrome and it no longer shows up as an app.  If it re-activates itself, I'll check if adblock is working with it. I hope it doesn't as it's not my favourite and came from the bloat ware

Last test with BBO was free free from unwanted sites, so I'm hoping it's fixed - fingers crossed

Re: Full scan android

You are welcome. Glad I could help.

Is this the ad blocker you are using?   https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adguard.android.conten...  If so, it says in the description that it only works with Yandex.browser and Samsung Internet browser. So Firefox and Chrome would not be protected by this app.

Re: Full scan android

AdGuard for Android is not to be confused with AdGuard Content Blocker. AdGuard Content Blocker is an app available in Google Play that has truncated functionality to meet restrictions imposed by the store. AdGuard for Android, on the contrary, is a powerful application to block ads, manage applications, and perform other roles that will be described in this article. The only place it can be downloaded from is the AdGuard website.

https://adguard.com/kb/adguard-for-android/overview/

What is the difference between AdGuard Content Blocker and AdGuard for Android?
The difference is huge. Content blockers in general are not only limited to specific (and few) browsers, but are much less potent in terms of ad fighting tools they have at their disposal. AdGuard for Android, being a standalone app, can block ads in all browsers and even in other apps, and the filtering quality is so much higher.

Why is AdGuard for Android not in the Google Play Store?
Google has a very peculiar policy towards ad blockers in Play Store. Basically, it means that any app that can block ads across the device is not allowed there, leaving flimsy content blockers as the only option. AdGuard has been removed from the Play Store as well.

What's the difference between free and Premium versions of AdGuard for Android?
While the free version is excellent at removing ads from browsers, it doesn't filter other apps' traffic. It also doesn't have the Safebrowsing feature.

Re: Full scan android

Method №2: Configure AdGuard DNS manually
Select the device type below and follow the instructions.

Android

Go to Settings → Network & Internet (or Wi-Fi & Internet)

Select Advanced → Private DNS.

Select Private DNS provider hostname. Enter one of the servers below:

Default server
dns.adguard-dns.com
AdGuard DNS will block ads and trackers.

Family protection server
family.adguard-dns.com
AdGuard DNS will block ads, trackers, adult content, and enable Safe Search and Safe Mode, where possible.

Tap Save.

Re: Full scan android

Thanks for all that info but I am not using adGUARD but adBLOCK.  On my desktop, it shows as a red octagon with a white hand and claims to be the best ad blocker. I have used it for years with no trouble. That version is not available in Google play store but there are several other versions and I have the one which it claims works with all browsers. It shows a green square with a white tick.
