Norton Internet Security - email smtp proxy - not good enough handling of errors

Would it be possible to add some logic to the error handling from the actual SMTP server by the NIS proxy?

E.g. if there is an error, the error message needs to be comprehensive - yesterday, i got an error access denied but had no idea on what message.

In every single case, however, i would like to have an option - resend the message, or deliver the message to an inbox.
