Norton Identity Toolbar in Firefox 26 adding unwanted code in forum posts

Hi everyone,

It's an honour for me to join the Norton Mac board as I just acquired a new Mac after years of working (or struggling) with Windows!

I look forward to this great board contributing to my learning curve, since I'm a complete Mac newbie/dummy!

About my issue:

I am running Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 and Firefox 26. The latest version of NIS is installed. The Norton Identity Toolbar version is: 1.8.0f4.

With the toolbar enabled, the following gibberish code is added to all my messages posted over here in the forums:

<script id="ncoEventScript" type="text/javascript">// function DOMContentLoaded(browserID, tabId, isTop, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) { object.DOMContentLoaded(browserID, tabId, isTop, url);} }; function Nav(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, isBool, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) object.Nav(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, isBool, url); }; function NavigateComplete(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) object.NavigateComplete(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, url); } function Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) object.Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url); }; // </script>

And when the Spell Check button is run, the following code is added to the subject header line of the message:

DOMContentLoaded(browserID, tabId, isTop, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) { object.DOMContentLoaded(browserID, tabId, isTop, url);} };function Nav(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, isBool, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) object.Nav(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, isBool, url); };function NavigateComplete(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) object.NavigateComplete(BrowserID, TabID, isTop, url); }function Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url) { var object = document.getElementById("cosymantecnisbfw"); if(null != object) object.Submit(browserID, tabID, target, url); };

I have seen the former occur in other posts on the Mac board, for instance, over here:
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-for-Mac/NortonInternetSecurityBF-Keeps-Crashing/td-p/1051103

A user also complained of this issue while having difficulties posting on a WordPress blog:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/some-codes-auto-added-when-i-create-a-new-post

At this point, I would like to send out many thanks to my co-Gurus SendOfJive for finding this link and Andmike for pinpointing the problem. Disabling the Norton Identity Toolbar is the only way to stop these problems. Turning off or turning on the NortonInternetSecurityBF 1.7.0 plugin has no effect, by the way, so it does not seem to be involved in the issue.

Could the Norton Mac engineers please have a look at the problem and fix it?

Your Norton Ladybug.

Hello Harsha,

Thank you very much for your quick response! I didn't realise that the issue had already been reported - I browsed around the threads over here on the Mac board but didn't notice a previous thread/post on this matter :-)
