Re: weird icon change

The 2011 products have a square icon with a graphic that looks like an atom. I guess a helium atom with 2 electrons.

If you open up the program it has a world map in the bottom section and if you go to Support\About the version number starts with an 18  (17 is for 2010).

The only other funny looking icon would be the icon for silent mode and to me that looks like a banana sitting on an acorn.

Re: weird icon change

The other icon shows nav in silent mode when a program is opened in full screen mode like youTube videos. Plus, those icons are for the 2011 version not the 2010, I think. Can you go to help, about, and post the version info.

Re: weird icon change

Someone may have updated it.  Norton has a way of being a little annoying and has popups asking you to update.

I think (I'm not positive) that it will also get to a point where it downloads the update and then give another notice that it's ready to install the update.

One of your employees may have clicked the notice.

But it's easy to tell, like I said on the 2011 product the bottom of the main screen has a map with a bunch of blinking lights on it.

On a side note, you really should consider a good backup program like Ghost, I do alot of accounting and record keeping for my business and I know what a nightmare it would be to loose any data or have any problems.

What happened here was no big deal but if it was a problem or a serious infection you would have a lot more stress to deal with.

Something like norton ghost would have had the system restored and working perfectly in a half hour or so.

Here is what NAV 2011 looks like

If thats what happened you may want to use it for a few days and then upgrade the other 2 systems, it's a free upgrade with a current license.

Re: weird icon change

yes now i can confirm its prob upgraded to 2011 automatically

this pic is what i got

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8256/nav2011.jpg

still confused as to why the other two are still 2010 as i update them daily consecutively.

so you mean to say every copy of 2010 is being upgraded to 2011 free of charge?

is this a mistake by any chance?

thanks

Re: weird icon change

You can upgrade for free. Download the 2011 version from "http://www.Norton.com/nav11". As long as I know Norton would not upgrade without asking you. You can upgrade your other pcs for free though. Just download the installer from the link and run it.

Re: weird icon change

HI boyinthecorner,

Starting in NAV2011 or NIS 2011 there is a setting in Misc. Settings that says "Automatic Download of New Versions" and can be set to yes or no. Prior to the 2011 version this did not exist.

No automatic install will ever be done, they all require user interaction and approval.

Prior to the 2011 version this would come in the form of an email (if so configured in your Norton account) notifying the user of a new version.

With 2011, if configured in Misc. Settings the new version would be downloaded but NOT installed without the user approving it.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Re: weird icon change

Allen, on this post I assume the person was running 2010 and thats why the 2011 version kept trying to download.

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Peak-Protection-2010-Trojan/m-p/326285/highlight/true#M134924

I also saw a comment by another guru that says that the new version 2011 allows you to tell it not to do the automatic download so I assume the 2010 version downloads the product without any choice given to the user.

Re: weird icon change

Hi Dave,

Allow me to clarify. I said NIS update would not be automatically installed and that 2011 has an option to prevent the download. I am not sure off hand what triggers the "download" prior to 2011 but it does not install itself without user intervention.
