Do I need VPN when at home?

I have a new M1 MacBook Pro running MacOS 12.1. I have Norton 360 version 8.7.2 installed. When my VPN is connected, there are many times when links from reliable websites don't work (a screen comes up telling me I'm not connected to the internet). Those situations are fixed if I disconnect my VPN. So my question is - do I need to have my VPN connected when I am at home using my home network? Is security an issue if I keep my VPN disconnected at home?

I have deleted everything Norton from all of my devices and reported my problems with the Better Business Bureau. I am demanding a refund for this product that doesn't work on Macs.
