"Fixing" error on for last 10 days

above message is live (active, blue circle moves) continually since about 10 days ago. I also can't close NL360 from Task Manager or any other way. The Smart Scan and Liveupdate links are inaccessible BUT I can do both from the taskbar menu when I right click on the NL icon. I have restarted the computer a few times, no change.

I tried to reach the CHAT support from the web multiple times but none of the links on that page respond either (related? unrelated? idk). Using latest version of Chrome on a WIN device.

Anyway, this is draining resources und, I would think, affecting security.
Any help/solution would be appreciated.

Re: "Fixing" error on for last 10 days

Try uninstalling using remove only function.

Then restart.

Then reinstall.

Then restart.

Download starts when you click the link.

Remove and reinstall Norton360 - download

Re: "Fixing" error on for last 10 days

Thx - uninstall/reinstall is always an option. But before doing that I'd like to know more about if there is a known cause, if it's a known issue, etc. I've been using Norton (which changed its name today... lol) for several years and never had anything like this happen before, nor with any other solution.

I don't know if I have the product key still (downloaded over 2 years ago). Would it be required when reinstalling? Any further issue about the issue itself?

thx

Re: "Fixing" error on for last 10 days

You do not need the product key when reinstalling if your subscription is still active. If you want to see your product key it is available if you login to your Norton account online and will be associated with your subscription.

The problems you are having sound very unusual and although it might be a known issue might not have any easy fix except to reinstall. It could be some corrupted files or registry entries which need to be cleared before the program will run properly.

You say Norton had a name change? What is it called now? I have Norton 360.

Re: "Fixing" error on for last 10 days

First thing I would check is to see if you have restarted your computer since this message started appearing. Norton can require a complete shutdown to complete some cleaning/maintenance functions. Be sure you are using the Restart command. Not Shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled. If you use Windows 8/8.1, 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

FoatBryan. By chance are you using a Windows laptop that is in S mode?

Running WIN 10 on a laptop, yes, but not in S mode --- I use Google Chrome for browsing (latest version).

Re: "Fixing" error on for last 10 days

There was a recent WIN10 patch which I applied and restarted. Issue is resolved. Not sure the two things are related, though....
thanks for the help everyone

Re: "Fixing" error on for last 10 days

I have noted many times that a pending Windows update can cause issues with network connections. As you found, a restart should resolve this.
