How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

How do I turn off the pop-up advertisements from Norton?  I'm already paying the annual subscription fee and I have for years.  If this was freeware or a trial, I could understand the constant attempts to sell me something, but this is a product I'm paying for in full already.

There was a post with this same subject line in the forum already but it's been closed with no solution.  Is the only solution to uninstall Norton and go somewhere else for my AV and backup needs?  I'm ready to do that if I have to.

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

First, open Norton 360 by right-clicking the system tray icon > Open Norton 360.  Now go to Settings > Administrative Settings > Scroll down to "Special Offer Notifications" and make sure the slider is set to Off > Apply.  You can now close the N360 GUI.

Next, open My Norton by right-clicking the system tray icon > Open My Norton.  Now click the gear icon > Notifications.  On the image below you can see a drop-down menu.

Change the drop-down to either, "Warning", or "Critical Only".  I have mine set to Warning and hardly ever see pop-ups now.

Hopefully that helps.

These instructions are not correct.

I am unable to locate "Administrative Settings" anywhere by following these instructions.

Are the instructions for disabling these popups different for Mac OS?  If so, what are they?

Those instructions certainly are correct, but maybe only for Windows.  I answered a post in the Norton 360 for Windows forum.

I have never used a Mac so cannot give instructions for that OS.

Sorry.

You would do best to post a question in the Mac forum board where you will find more Mac users.   https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-for-mac

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

These instructions won't work because you have to enter a password after you click on Administrative Settings and none of the passwords for Norton 360 nor the Norton Password Vault will work.  Still gives message "Password is Incorrect."  However if you are trying to change SafeCam settings, for some reason you are able to without a password.

Thanks, I never knew about the alert categories.  That sounds like it's just what I needed.  Crossing fingers, thanks :)

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

I turned off special offers a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday I got a pop up asking me to enroll family members in identity protection. I consider that a special offer.

Did you also complete the next step and change Alert Categories to Warning or Critical?

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

Well, it does seem to have stopped the popups I had initially complained about.  However, now instead of popups, it just opens the Norton interface and leaves it up.  Like last night I had all windows closed before I went to bed.  I wake up this morning, and this is my desktop (sigh):

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

I finally was able to get to the Administration settings by deleting the Norton and reinstalling.  Shut off the offers toggle but yesterday and today still get the same pop-up asking me to upgrade to new Utilities when I already have the program until 2050. Also I cannot find anywhere under Administration where you can specify Critical Alerts only.

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

Yes I was able to finally get to the Administrative Settings without a password but no I'm still getting pop-up offers even though I shut that toggle to off. So original issue is still not fixed.

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

Unfortunately, the pop-up about NUU is not from N360 so there is no setting in N360 that will stop it.

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

Following this thread is more ammo as to why I am cancelling my Norton subscription.  Norton was a great product, have used for many years. Now it is dunning me multiple times a day.  If I wanted constant spam there are other wasy to get it.  When you were doing security you were great.  Now marketing seems to be your focus.  Not for me anymore!

It sounds like you turned off the special offer notification in settings.  Did you also try the fix earlier in the thread?  That worked for me, though it came with its own baggage.  Though maybe that baggage won't happen on yours (shrug)

@Strahan

Have you turned off your computer and restarted after changing the settings? Also check your Startup Manager (search for it using the magnifying glass) and see what programs are listed to run on Startup.  I have shut off a lot of unnecessary programs that I don't need started every time. Maybe it has Norton dashboard starting up.

Does my client automatically update or do I need to download and reinstall the product?  I tried to find an updater in the interface, but the only thing that mentions software updates is not for Norton itself, but for other programs.

Yep, rebooted and no, nothing in my startup.  I'm very anal about startup, I keep a close eye on that to stop programs from throwing their stuff in there heh.

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

The constant pop ups attempting to sell additional features that you would think are already included in the protection are so annoying. The privacy monitoring is useless and I have seen zero results and just that they are "working on it". Have had this subscription for years but may switch to another due to the constant hounding to add on.

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

I had disabled Special Offer Notifications and set the My Norton alerts to Critical Only.  However I am still getting Offer notifications like the one attached here on one computer.

After some further investigation I discovered that the My Norton alerts must be set separately on each computer.  I thought setting it on one would affect all of my installed licenses.  I guess not. Perhaps someone can confirm this is a per-computer setting?  This might help someone else with the same confusion and annoyance.

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

The answer to this question - How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups? - is simple.  You CANNOT.  This is Norton's marketing department in all it's glory.   Somehow Norton is able to USE Microsofts' backdoor instant messaging (which MS reserves for critical messaging, and no other reputable software USE at all) - and this UNIQUE ADVANTAGE has Norton staff STUCK on permanent sell and unmatched access to one's computer.  It's all way too advantageous for Norton to pass up.

Does it interrupt your workflow?  Does it annoy you to have your personal computer used like this?   TOO BAD !

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

I ended up switching to BitDefender.  I sent an email to Norton to let them know why I switched, not that I really expect them to care, lol, but hopefully if enough people tell them that's why they're quitting maybe we can get the income loss to exceed the revenue gain from popup ads :)

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

I was able to finally get the pop-ups to stop by following instructions from Krusty13.  The Norton 360 has to be in My Norton launch view (not Classic) and from there you can get to Notifications to uncheck the Special Offers box and to change Alerts to Critical Only.

Re: How to turn off the non-stop pop-ups?

Hope it actually works for you.  I have SO disabled and am also on critical only and still got the data breach popup the other day and the ransomware popup today.  I've bought BD, but I'm still using the Norton on some of my machines until my subscription runs out.  The damned ransomware popup stole focus when I was typing, irritated me so much I nearly said heck with getting my money's worth and just uninstalled.  I'm too much of a penny pincher though to justify wasting two months worth of subscription so I'm sucking it up and sticking it out, lol
