How to post an image in the forums.

How to post an image in the new forums.

(Note: This only works from the wide screen format of the forums. If you have a narrow screen/mobile layout then you cannot insert images.)

Start creating the post that you want the image to appear in, whether that be a new thread or a comment on an existing one.  In the tool bars above the edit window is a small brown rectangle with a green interior (a bit like a picture!) - the Image Icon.

Click on this image icon. This should open a file browser window which will list all of your uploaded images, but initially there will be none. At the top left are the three options Upload: Delete: and Insert File.

Clicking on “Upload” brings up another small pop-up with the active buttons “Choose File” and “Upload”.

First select “Choose file” this should open yet another window which allows you to browse the files on your own computer. Select the file you want (.jpg, .png and .gif files seem to work, I am not sure about others) and click on the “Open” button (you can also double click on the file you want). This will put the name of the file you have selected on the right of the “Choose File” button. If it is the one you want, then click on the “Upload” button and the file will appear in the list under the “Upload: Delete: Insert File” bar. The files size may be reduced when it is uploaded. I believe that the maximum width for display purposes is around 1000 pixels.

When you have the file you want to display in the list then select that file (when selected the image will show in the bottom pane of the window) and click on “Insert File” (or again you can just double click on it in the list). It should then be inserted in your post where the cursor was last resting.

Note: Before your image becomes visible in the public forums it will need to go through "Moderation" where Norton staff check to ensure that no unsuitable images have been uploaded.  Please be patient and allow the staff time to do their work.

-----------------------

If you already have a copy of the file you want to insert uploaded to the forums, then, after clicking on the brown and green “Image” icon all you need to do is select the relevant file and then click on “Insert File”.

---------------------------

In future it should be possible to change the size and positioning of the displayed image but how to do this is probably better covered in a separate post.

--------------------------

Note 1:- The list of images uploaded by a user can only be seen by that user (and the moderators). It is not possible for other users to browse the list.

Note 2:- If a user deletes an image from the list of uploaded images then it will vanish from any posts in which it was inserted.

Hi Jim.

Not sure I am clear what you are saying.  Is it that the "Upload", "Delete" and "Insert file" buttons may not show on the top of the image insert window in Firefox at some zoom levels?  But I also interpret your post to mean that they do show at the default and at other zoom levels.

Re: How to post an image in the forums.

That is correct. Works great if I lower the zoom level.

Hi PhoneMan.

Why did you think that that version of Norton Security would change how these forums work?  Have I missed something?

Looks like this Zoom problem is fixed. Those buttons will now appear at all zoom levels. Using FF 37.0.1

Hello PhoneMan

Thank you for posting that. I just tried it in IE 11 and it works there also. Now I don't have to go completely blind by having to use a lower zoom level.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit 2004 N 360 22.20.5.39 Chrome latest version.

Is .png the only format that can be uploaded? If not, what other formats?

.JPG  and .GIF can be uploaded.  Not sure of others.

Re: How to post an image in the forums.

I really appreciate the time and attention given to my dilemma, however, I feel like I just shouldn't expect to open files in the coffee shop I don't care to have others share.

I especially liked the info about the little window in the toolbar and how to use it. Maybe someday when I have more time I'll play around with getting my files to attach to a message like this.
