Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

After updating to Office 365 2016 the antispam button in the Ribbon disappears and does not show up in the "all commands" in the Option window. It does show up as an add in in the Add-Ins section of Options and still get email with [Norton AntiSpam] in the email title in the Inbox but there is no way now to designate it as spam so that Norton's catches it before getting to the Inbox.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

Does anyone know why the Norton tab would be missing from the Outlook 2016 ribbon? I have checked to make sure that the Norton Anti-Spam add-in is enabled in Outlook 2016, it is, but the ribbon does not display a Norton tab, and there is no option to add it. Is this by design, or has Norton/Symantec once again failed to get ahead of a product release so that their own products are already compatible when it (in this case Office 2016) comes out? If the latter, the failure of Norton/Symantec to work with other vendors whose products Norton/Symantec's own products need to integrate with in order to function properly is inexcusable. I'm certain that Microsoft, Mozilla, et al provide Norton/Symantec with plenty of advance opportunity to get your software compatible and working properly with their own.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

I can confirm the issue, and spam-filtering only works to some extend in Outlook 2016: Mails are flagged with "[Norton Anti-Spam]" in the header, but not moved in the junk-folder.

Same problem here. Temporarily created an Inbox rule to move all emails marked [Norton AntiSpam] in header to the Junk Mail folder. Works OK, but sure would like a real fix.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

I have just upgraded my version of outlook to the new 2016 version - and Norton anti-spam has stopped working.

I have contacted support and been told that Norton do not support outlook 2016 !!!!!  Given the number of people who use outlook how on earth can it not be supported by Norton ?  At the very least Norton should be warning us not to upgrade from outlook 2013 if they cannot support the 2016 version.

Hi everyone,

The Norton Anti-Spam feature is not fully compatible with the new Office 2016. The team has started working on this issue.

We'll update this thread when we have more information.

Same issue. I will add I find the Junk email filter embedded in Outlook 2016 is much more effective particularly when downloading from a Verizon email account. With Outlook 2013 and the Norton Antispam working I would get over 100+ spam emails a day.  Over the past year I spent hours with Norton tech support and never got issue resolved as they stated it had to do with the ports Verizon uses.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

Uh...why? It's not like it was a surprise that it was coming out. Are you guys having trouble hiring enough programmers to keep up with things? Your product should be ready to go when a major revision of something like Office comes out. Microsoft wasn't exactly secretive about this, and I'm certain they didn't withhold the early versions of the product from you. The amount of catch up you guys seem to be doing anymore only serves to make your customers doubt whether they can trust you. If you can't keep up with the number of projects you have right now, hire more people. I'm sick of this nonsense, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Oh, and "The team has started working on this issue"? Just now? Seriously? Not, say, six months ago? Pathetic...

I ordered, and am currently waiting for delivery of the 2016 version of Norton Security. Should I assume that the new product will have the same compatibility problems with Outlook 365/2015 (and Firefox)?

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

There's an awful lot of deja vu here. I'd hoped Norton had learnt their lesson from previous occasions they lagged significantly behind the mainstream Microsoft email product. I remember last time I contacted Norton Support they insisted they were still offering email support by virtue of the anti-virus element - but these days the product clearly states it is an anti-spam product when you install it. The main reason I spent money on Norton, rather than use the free alternative in Windows 10 was the anti-spam element that you don't get with Windows 10 - but it now appears Norton have made the same mistake as they have done previously.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

I'm afraid it has come to that point. I have installed Kaspersky Total Security on several new PCs using Office 365 2016 and the Spam filters seem to be working well and the "This is Spam" and "This is Not Spam" buttons come up on the ribbon automatically and have worked flawlessly so far. I am still holding out hope that a fix will be released sooner rather than later for my existing Office 365 2016 installs currently using Norton's.

Remerciements0

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

If I had not just paid my subscription for another year I would be off to Kaspersky as well. Norton take note - this level of support for the major business e-mail client is simply unacceptable!!

Hello mmagman

The program has recently been released.  Norton is currently working on this issue to solve it. I'm sorry, but I don't know if it will be fixed in a week's time. It would help if you can give us some facts about your computer other than you have Office 2016 installed. . We need information as to the operating system installed, the Norton product and version installed, the browser involved..

Thanks.

Hello All

It would help if you all would give details about your operating system, browser, program involved, ports involved, Norton program and version number. Can you temporarily set up Outlook to do the filtering and turn off Outlook to do the anti-spam filtering?

I have Office 2013, but I let Outlook do the filtering of the Anti-Spam. Can Outlook 2016 be set up to do the filtering if necessary until Norton can get this issue fixed? Please give as much information that you can.

Have any of you had any issues with Norton not being able to protect your computer from Malware?

Thanks.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

You shouldn't need any such information from us, since you haven't got the Antispam feature functioning with Office 2016 at all. That's what this thread is about - the abject failure of Norton to have their security products fully compatible and functional with Office 2016 BEFORE Microsoft released it. Norton gets advanced copies of products such as Office long before they are released to the public, either as a courtesy from Microsoft or by request to Microsoft, to ensure that Norton's security products are compatible before release. Quit asking for information on a publicly viewable forum that could be used by that scum of the earth, hackers, to infiltrate systems. The more they know about your system beforehand, the easier it is for them. Furthermore, no one except a Norton employee should be asking for such information, and they definitely shouldn't be asking for it to be posted on a publicly viewable forum. Floplot is not a Norton employee - not according to his/her profile. At best s/he is one of the many Norton apologists who haunt these forums.

Shame on you Norton - you have failed on almost every level as a security company. Either get your act together, or watch your customers flee to safer havens.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

I really wonder what Symantec / Norton / Veritas is doing.
I have always thought that you are leading the trend, but it is quickly destroyed.

For my business the problems started with Symantec System Recovery that was not at all prepared for Windows 10, despite the expensive licenses. And now another Symantec product - Norton - is the problem. Here it also turns out that Office 2016 was a total surprise, or..?

But my goodness you work after all with this and have full control of the new launches.
What are you doing?

I think I figured it out,  watch for Norton Security 2016.........Yours for the magical upgrade price of $$$.    I'm giving them 2 weeks then I'm asking for a refund and going back to the free but adequate programs that I used to use. (and actually still using them on 3 other computers that I have).

I have the same problem.  I'm using Windows 8.1.  I just updated from Outlook 2013 to Outlook in Office 365.2016.  And now Norton Anti-Spam integration with Outlook appears to be gone.  Weeks have passed since this problem surfaced.  And, of course, as others have said, this never should have been a problem in the first place.  What is Norton doing about this?  When will this be fixed?

Same problem, I have Office 2010 installed and then upgraded to Office 2016. No more norton protection. 2010 is still installed, but now crashes on startup.

Guys, this is really REALLY BAD FORM. Not what I expected from you after 20 years of loyal subscriptions. I received notifications from you folks several months ago that my Norton 360 product was completely compatible with Windows 10. WELL DID YOU MEAN NOT OFFICE 2016 IN WIN 10? C'mon! You guys look very silly if you cant fix this after all this time. I do believe I'm going to call my favorite national newspaper and let them know what's taking place here. The clock is ticking...

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

Is there a way to get the amount your 'down time' added to our current subscriptions.  After all, we are paying for this product.  It is the LEAST you could do for us.  I am very disappointed that you were not prepared for the release of Office 2016.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

Perhaps it's time that all of us stop whining and do something constructive to help. It may be helpful ro others if we went to all sales sites (Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, Rakuten, Frys, etc) and posted very factual reviews. Not ranting and laden with personal stories of woe, but more like, "Warning: Norton Security is INCOMPATIBLE with Microsoft Office 2016, and rhe Firefox Browser. This is directly by Norton's own admission. You should reconsider your purchase if you own/use either Office or Firefox."

I'm guessing that lack of sales may provide additional motivation to Symantec to repair their non-working products.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

I know this is a problem, but here is a simple workaround until Norton fixes the problem:

Although the Norton Spam Buttons are not available, Norton is still flagging Spam with [Norton AntiSpam] in the message title.

Create a rule as follows:

Apply this Rule after the message arrives

with Norton AntiSpam in the subject

move it to the Norton AntiSpam Folder

Then you can simply delete all messages in this folder

We still will not be able to flag messages not caught by Norton as Norton Spam, since that button is not available.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

I've been using Norton for many years, but now at the same time we have the spam filter not working with Office 2016 as well as the Norton Safe and toolbar not working with Firefox.  Both of these failures are a big issue for me to the point I'm forced into looking to change to a different security suite well in advance of my current subscription end date.

So yes, I'm feeling a bit frustrated having a program that doesn't work as it should, but much more than that I'm disappointed that this could ever happen. It seems like it was a big surprise to Norton and it's also clear they don't know what to do to fix it. There are other big names in this industry and my long standing brand loyalty to Norton is running out this week.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

As loyal customers you should be able to advice a time frame to fix this problem.

I am now looking for replacement software and not happy that after so many years it has come to this.

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

This is becoming obstructive. The workaround by creating a Rule in Outlook is okay as far as it goes, but it is not a complete solution. I've just discovered that Norton Anti-Spam is incorrectly flagging email from a company I correspond with as spam. Since there is no access to the Anti-Spam controls, I have no way of telling Anti-Spam to stop blocking emails which I need to receive. I suppose I could create another rule to intercept messages from the specific sender, but really what needs to happen is that Symantec needs to update their software.

Remerciements0

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

I agree with all the comments so far and what is disappointing is office 365 2016 was not a spur of the moment release by Microsoft. Far from it. So how come it takes loyal customers of Norton to point out the non comparability. On issues like this norton need to be on the front foot after all they have all of our email addresses why not tell us be proactive not reactive

Remerciements0

Re: Antispam button disappears after updating to Office 365 .2016

I've seen a few suggested "workarounds" for this issue, but none of them tackle the fact you can no longer "train" the anti-spam software about spam you receive.

As a result I've seen messages in my inbox that would normally get nowhere near. I am running two machines with the same setup except I've updated one to Office 2016, and I was really surprised (and concerned) to find a message in my inbox from one of those spammers that forges the "sender" address to look like I've sent it myself. That in turn led to Outlook treating it as a safe message, allowing images to be fetched etc - with obvious concerns.

I looked at my other machine and the same message was safely filtered out. Both machines have the Outlook junk filter set to "high".
