That's not a bug -- that's a return to making it a tool to use if you want more than is built into Windows already!

Re: CCleaner v5.58.7209

Has anyone tried to run CCleaner Portable v5.58.7209 (available at https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds) from a USB thumb drive?

I normally use the 32-bit CCleaner Portable v5.47 on my old Vista SP2 machine but thought I'd test the latest v5.58 and got all sorts of warnings from my Norton Smart Firewall about suspicious online activity, which I've never seen with older versions.  As a test I deleted the firewall block I manually created for ccleaner.exe v5.47 executable at Settings | Firewall | Program Control and it seems to run fine - the Smart Firewall automatically created an entry with the default "Allow" access.

Even stranger, I submitted the unzipped Portable executables for v5.58.7209 to VirusTotal.com and they both came back with 0/70 detections (see <here> for 32-bit ccleaner.exe; <here> for 64-bit ccleaner64.exe), but for some unknown reason Symantec is missing from the list of AV engines included in those VirusTotal reports.

I don't know if there's some new feature in more recent CCleaner Portable versions (e.g., the new Software Updater) that now causes the Norton Smart Firewall to throw these "suspicious online activity" warnings until executable is explicitly Allowed or if the problem is unique to the latest  v5.58.7209.  The image above shows the unzipped ccleaner.exe v5.58 is still Unproven (Very New, Very Few Users) so I suspect submitting a false positive report at https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/ might fix this, but that assumes the "suspicious online activity" warnings will disappear once the executables are whitelisted and/or achieve a Good reputation.

Hi bjm_:

Thanks for testing the 64-bit executable.  I'll send Norton a false positive report for the 32-bit ccleaner.exe from CCleaner Portable and ask if it needs to be whitelisted.
