I just installed macOS big sur 11.1 the other day and Norton 360 caused google chrome and safari to stop working. It also blocked me from sharing files between other computers on my network (including my Windows 10 virtual machine using Parallels desktop), even after allowing connections. So I uninstalled Norton on mac.

      I am having the same problem.  If I remove Norton 360 from my iMac (I have Big Sur 11.1 installed), I get the speeds I am paying for (400+ Mbps download).  When I install Norton 360 with network monitoring it drops between 40% to 50%.   It is because of the network monitoring, and this seems to be a very heavy price to pay.   Particularly as I had protection from Norton 360 before this change was made to Norton.  

       When will this get fixed ?

I worked with level 2 support and never got my speed back.  A promised call-back at a specific time (why can't the call be identified as Norton instead of a nondescript 1.800 number?) never came after numerous attempts to work this issue.

A 100mbps+ connection to 15mbps or less with VPN is unacceptable and with hours spent with tech support I unsubscribed.

I've the same problem too. MacBook Pro Late 2017 (3,5 GHz-Dual Core): With the activated network service "Norton 360" the connection slowed down from 260 to 150 MBit (and my CPU is crying at this moment).
Without disabled service the speed is perfect again, but Norton is crying permanently. 

You just have to move on, Norton will not fix this issue.  I have been on many phone calls and emails with all levels of support all they do is say don't use the VPN.  When I tell them I'm not on a VPN they collect some logs and you never here from them.  I have tested a few competitors and they all work its just Norton that has the problem.  I called and got a refund and I suggest you do the same if you want your speed back.

Have any of you been offered the latest update to version 8.6.2? Performing a manual live update will NOT fetch the update, it will be sent in a phased manner. Release note are posted at the link below.

I too have this issues and it is related to Vulnerability Protection. However, I only see with Chrome ( not Safari ). My download speed was about a tenth of what I was getting ( 500mbps to 50mbps . I have the latest / clean versions of Chrome installed and have gone through a number of preference setting changes as well as beta access flag changes with no impact. Currently running with Vulnerability Protection off. 

I just upgraded my 2017 retina 5k iMac to Big Sur and am experiencing the exact same problem...I'm connected via ethernet and up until now Norton 360 hasn't had any impact on my network connection.  Once I upgraded to Big Sur, a new service appeared in the network settings named "Norton 360".  When I run speed test via Ookla, the speed is reduced by 75% unless I disable vulnerability protection and then it works fine.  I haven't received the 8.6.2 upgrade, currently operating with 8.6.1 (waiting for the upgrade).  Any words are appreciated!

Something changed dramatically with Vulnerability protection.  I can turn it off temporarily, but I cannot access the Norton console unless I turn it back on.  Is there a way to permanently disable Vulnerability protection?

I am on Catalina on a late 2012 iMac with 1G Internet hard wired.  Ookla was giving me 900mbps up and down prior to a recent Norton Update. With vulnerability protection on, Ookla gives me about 118mbps.  That is a dramatic difference. After the update, I noted a Norton360 network device that was not there before the update, so something has changed significantly with how they do vulnerability protection.  I am running Nortion 360 8.6.2.  The problem goes away when I turn off Vulnerability Protection - my speeds return to normal.  However, after a reboot, I am prompted to Fix Now, and it turns vulnerability protection back on.  This is a recurring theme for Norton.  I cannot disable problematic features because the prompts force me to remediate before I can even get to the Norton Console.  Add to that the constant badgering about adding browser extensions to manage my web surfing and this product is becoming down right annoying.  

I also have a 2017 MacBook Air with Big Sur.  When the update went on there, it completely disconnected from the Internet and WiFi was having trouble starting and holding a connection.  I found some connection blocking rules in the connection blocking feature turned on that I had to eliminate to get it working.  On WiFi, I get about 130mbps with Vulnerability protection on and off.  Speedtest is not as markedly impacted as it is on the iMac.  This may very well be a function of processor capacity (newer machine) - similar to a VPN the faster the connection, the harder it is for the device to keep up.  WiFi speeds seem to have little impact.   

I can understand that some features are going to cause a performance hit.  However, there should be better options to turn off and keep off those features if needed.  I'm tired of the constant badgering I get from Norton.  I don't understand how Norton was doing vulnerability protection prior to the update and how they are doing it now.  Why have they chosen a VPN style network connection monitor to implement this?

I have been a Norton customer for the last 10 years and have recommended it to many friends and family over time.  I am actively researching alternatives to Norton and LifeLock. 

I'm not in the mood to continue this re-installing effort, until Norton has very specifically fixed the issue.  I too have recommended Norton to several colleagues, and am certainly disappointed with this current speed issue.

I am experiencing more that a 350 Mbps reduction in download speed when Norton's Vulnerability Protection is active.  This means my speeds are significantly reduced, from 682 to 322.  This is indeed unacceptable.

I have a Gigabit connection to the Internet. I have both Windows 10 20H2 (5 workstations), IPAD 11 and macOS 10.15.7 (1 workstation) in my network. I use Norton Security 8.6.2 on all devices. After last update I see slow internet connection on my mac. Internet speed is degraded from 1GB to 100 Mbit download. When disabling Vulnerability scanning internet speed is back to 1Gbit. I can see from the thread that others have the same problem on their mac systems. Please fix this ASAP. On the Windows 10 devices I have no issues with Norton.

Instead of getting 950 Mbps I was only getting ~400Mbps (never more)

I have been searching some other threads like this one, I can see some people talking about the VPN... Seriously do they have a little bit of knowledge ? The answer is here.
