Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

Um, is "Undo Previous Fix" with 6.0.x (solely) dependent on "Create Widows System Restore Point before proceeding with fix (Recommended)? as per 5.3.x.

Um, will 6.0.x run the risk of making computer unbootable?

Norton Power Eraser can still detect and repair an infected Windows file. However, modifying or repairing a Windows file may make your computer unbootable.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

One thing of note in the video is an issue with NPE that still exists from older versions. Flagging files that shouldn't be flagged. I've created a thread here in that regard. Most users won't even be looking for answers to why a text file is being flagged by NPE. I also agree with bjm, flagging files that a user may not know are required system files and rebooting to a non-fuctional device are going to create a huge mess. I would revise the product in that regard, the video context should then be suffeciently accurate as portrayed.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

System files are not flagged for removal if they are clean. If they are not clean, then that can pose a potential issue. We are considering a change for those cases where we find a system file infected. We would launch SFC to restore system files.

This is our mission statement for NPE: Remove malware and return the machine to a reliable functioning state.

There is not pretty way to run SFC, but it would be better than a busted system.

Yeah...and I was curious what if System Restore is off or not functional....restore point not created?

FWIW ~ that's what I was thinking watching the video.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

If the system restore point fails, you have an option to not continue.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

So, successful "Undo Previous Fix" is dependent on successfully creating a system restore point?

So, "Undo Previous Fix" is not a native built-in NPE function?

Just always been curious....re: "Undo".

Does "Undo" process interplay okay with resident Norton 360 Norton Product Tamper Protection that has not played well with System Restore.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

To undo the fix, you must have performed a fix in NPE. If the system restore failed, you can choose not to continue. Thus not performing the fix. Basically undo what you did, but only within the context of what NPE did.

Perhaps the terminology should be adjusted?

In many ways we did not alter the general workflows of NPE during this update. We mostly focused on UI and the inner workings.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

Yes...but....if I opt Yes...continue fix sans restore point.

Is successful "Undo Previous Fix" dependent on creating a system restore point?

"Undo Previous Fix" is not a native built-in NPE function?
"Undo Previous Fix" is solely dependent on system restore point?

and with successful created restore point....

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

Is successful "Undo Previous Fix" dependent on creating a system restore point?   No.

"Undo Previous Fix" is not a native built-in NPE function?   It is. NPE undoes what it did.

NPE in no way interacts with the product with regard to the fixing or undoing of fixes.

Hopefully that answers your questions.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

Oh?...so, creating a system restore point is just in case NPE undoes, does not undo?
Why is system restore point Recommended.... if not mission critical?

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

Belt and suspenders really.

I know many times when I test I don't take a restore point as I reviewed (or know I can review) what files will be deleted as part of the fix.

For added safety, a restore point is nice to have.

Okay.....Recommended .... not Required.  Thanks
Hmm, don't recall Belt and Suspenders with EULA.

Regarding EULA.  Will 6.0.x prominently present EULA same as 5.3.x

btw ~ my NPE 6.0.x does not prominently present License Agreement same as 5.3.x.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

Once accepted, it will not display again.

If you would like to see the EULA, delete this file: %ProgramData%\Norton\NPE\NPEsettings.dat

Ahh....once accepted, it will not display again.
Okay, one time display differs from my 5.3.x. experience.

Yes, I can find License Agreement.
I was wondering Permalink (when I did not see each run) why I'm not seeing prominently presented License Agreement as with 5.3.x each run.
Now, we know....once accepted, it will not display again.

Thanks for your interest.

Um, is this the window .... I'm supposed to see...?
Is this the (only) EULA "Agree" window I'll see...?

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

Ah, when you launch from the product, we never show a license agreement. You got one when installing the product.

Trying to limit popping a EULA every time you turn around.

I hope that is preferable.

Hmm, I see EULA each 5.3.x run....so, I was simply wondering why I'm not seeing EULA each 6.0.x run.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

Fair enough.

We made some minor tweaks here and there, but didn't change up the overall 'feel' of the app.

More to come. Hopefully a bit quicker.

Re: Please provide feedback for this Norton Power Eraser 6.0 video!

NPE stand alone.
I see License Agreement first run.

Note: I do not see "Norton Power Eraser is an aggressive scanner" on next runs.
