Crypto not doing anything for me

The Crypto mining part of the EAP is not doing anything for me right now. Shows 0 hash rate and doesn't do anything but refresh it's timer every 10 minutes. I have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070, is anyone else with this card experiencing the same problem or does anyone have some tips as to how I can get this to work?

I have the same issue, and also the same graphics card

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

The same is the case with me. The hash rate is 0.0.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

I have the problem of a hash rate of 0, but with an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Hi, I have it set up to mine when on idle. The yellow circle spins and with a 10 minute timer. Why does my hash rate show as a zero 0.00 MHz. Am I doing something wrong or need to do something else to correct this?
Remerciements0

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

My hashrate showed zero for the first while but then it eventually showed up. I think the real issue is, despite the fact it's definitely running, I'm actually not generating any ETH.
Kinda seems like I'm just generating ETH for Norton using my hardware. Hopefully someone from Norton will chime in here and explain what is going on.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Same, 5700xt. No hash rate

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Same here anyone got the answer yet yellow circle spins for 10 mins then resets no ETH no hash rate 0.000000 GTX 1060 6GB

Is it working? task manager says gpu 0 so whats going on??

I'm also having the same issues.

Yes I am running latest GPU drivers from Nvidia

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

I am also fully updated. Still in 3 days 0ETH

I also have the most recent drivers. Maybe a weird setting somewhere?

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

For my single Nvidia GTX 1070 with the latest driver 466.63 in Norton Crypto, the hash rate is around 24MH/S in the desktop app, in the wallet, it shows 28.5 MH/S but the ETH is always 0.00000.
Whereas running T-REX for 4 hours in SparkPool my hash rate is around 20MH/S, made 30 valid shares and I have ETH 0.00003.

I wish Norton Crypto shows how many shares are valid so that we know some progress is being made.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Seems to be having the same issue as others. Brand new computer with AMD Radeon RX 5700M and the Hash Rate has been 0 for over 24 hours. Ran all the updates and installed even the new test drivers from AMD. No idea what else I am doing wrong now.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

I don't think there is any point in running the Crypto unless someone from the product development team or support team provide some updates that it's working. At least I wish someone from the team acknowledges that the issue is there.

It's waste of time, energy and electricity.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

I  think what you have to remember is that you are all beta testing Norton Crypto.

This is not an in production program right now and issues are to be expected and Norton values your feedback on these problems. You are not required to participate but any info you can give about your experiences and system can be used to make the product better.

Hi,

We are looking into this issue, and we will get back to you soon. Please continue to test the product and post your feedback on this forum board. We really appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

I totally agree with you, we are here knowing that this is an EAP specific roll out which means we are participating knowing the product may or may not work.

I'm a developer myself and when my customer comes and says something is not working, the first thing I do is I respond back acknowledging the message, which shows that there is an issue or not and I'm working on it to check if it's really an issue. Later comes the part where I post updates on what is being done to fix the issue.

We are here trying to help out Symantec to test their product. But at the same time, Symantec also needs to understand that when many EAP members are saying the product is not working, then they have to provide some kind of update or at the least acknowledge. They cannot sit silently while the members are providing feedback, can they?

For now, I have decided to keep the mining paused till someone from the dev or support team requests to resume the testing.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Using my 3080 it is not showing a Hashrate in the desktop app.  However, I am showing a hashrate when looking in the wallet! The GPU is being utilized, so I'll hope for the best. NVIDIA drivers are up to date with 466.63.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

This morning mine started showing the hash rate and it's registering on the website, but the hash rates listed are different. Also it's been going all day and my etherium says 0.00000. I know others have posted that issue but just wanted to mention that it appears to be the case that my first issue was solved. I'm assuming the second one is just that the Norton mining collective hasn't gotten a coin since mine actually started working. Or in the alternative it's showing up like it's working but still isn't.

Exactly is what I'm experiencing, I hope they show a means by which we can know if progress is being made.

Also, I wish they have an option to limit the load in the GPU like options in T-Rex. In fact, when I set to low mode in T-Rex, I started seeing more valid shares.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Yes, mine has began to show a hash rate, but no earning yet either. Presume we just need more users and this could work well. I am hopeful for this, it's a good idea.

Incidentally, can you run( mine on) more than 1 pc at the same time if you have the 5 license version?

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

@Kannan,

I might suggest that Norton LifeLock does acknowledge the feedback here. Moderator Gayathri has acknowledged and  thanked people in this thread and other threads that I have seen for their feedback. And just having this forum with an EAP board to allow folks to post their issues is an acknowledgement in itself.

Norton LifeLock is definitely listening as they stand to profit from their transaction fee from all miners. So you can bet they will be working to fix issues and get this software out to the general population. As a developer you must know that problems are prioritized by management and they use their resources as best they can to create and fix software with the bottom line being increased revenue for the company.

And as a developer you must know that Beta testing is needed to weed out these issues as no software is perfect. If you sign up for the EAP you should expect problems  and know that the software you are running is not production status. Reporting those issues here will be a great benefit for all future users. In the meantime you might not earn any money for your efforts and time.

And everyone should take into account he fact that your earnings will be reduced by Norton fees, transfer fees, selling fees and ultimately capital gains taxes. I am no tax expert but it is also possible that the IRS will tax your mining income as regular income. If not then your cost basis is zero when you sell and will incur higher capital gains tax. Very confusing to me and maybe others might expound on this.

FYI  Symantec was purchased by Broadcom and a new company was spun off merging Norton with Lifelock and now called Norton Lifelock.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Thank you @xjoex, yes I saw the acknowledgement by Gayathri hence my understanding that the development team is also aware of the issue. Now hoping to hear from the team so that we can do further testing to help the development team.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

In order for this to work Norton have to make the fees competitive. It's relatively easy to download a miner such as NB and do it that way. This can be a good idea if it can be made to work. Have been running now for a while and hash rate looks good, but no income.

And do you have to use coinbase to withdraw? Surely we can add any withdraw address and have the profit paid there? Just copy an address over such as  0xbc39721d3E83569568644CE58B84c0A8e67ecBA3 and pay there?

I will leave it running while I can to help.

GoldFishInABag:

According to the article Hands on with Norton antivirus Ethereum mining: The good and the bad (bleepingcomputer.com), I guess 15% of the Norton pool compared 1% to 3% with other pools.

When using a mining pool, the pool takes an administrative fee from all payments. These fees typically range from 0% on new pools, looking to attract miners, to as high as 2.5-3% for larger pools.

Some of the largest Ethereum mining pools, like Spark Pool and EtherMine, only take a 1% fee from payments.

On the other hand, Norton Crypto charges a monstrous 15% mining fee when paying Ethereum rewards.

"Rewards of crypto earned by the pool, if any, are allocated to you based on the timing of your participation, the number of shares you are credited through your contributions, and how much Ether is generated based on those shares," explains Norton Crypto's Terms of Service.

"We will periodically transfer your allocation of crypto, if any, to a digital wallet that We create for you. Each of these transfers (commonly known as “payouts”) is subject to Our fee for providing the Norton Crypto mining software."

"Our fee is currently 15% of the crypto transferred to you. We will notify you ahead of time of any changes in the fees charged," with the bolded emphasis added by BleepingComputer.

As the largest Ethereum pools only charge a 1% fee, that additional 14% can make a massive difference in payouts, especially when you may only get payouts of a few dollars at a time.

Using real-world numbers, if your mining reward is $5 on Spark Pool and Ethermine, your fee is only $0.05. However, Norton's mining pool would charge a fee of $0.75, a $0.70 difference.

Over time, this wide discrepancy in fees could add up to quite a bit of money, making it not worthwhile to use the Norton Crypto feature.

Finally, Ethereum is slated to move from a Proof-of-Work to a Proof-of-Stake mining process, which rewards users with blocks depending on how many coins they stake on the blockchain.

Once Ethereum transfers to a Proof-of-Stake mining process, Norton Crypto will no longer be useful, making it strange to add the feature so late in the game.

Remerciements0

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

We dont know if the final fee will be 15%, maybe they'll change it.
However, it is always better to pay 0.75$ for every 5$ you earn than to pay another 35$ to get the program! ;)
The advantage of Norton Crypto is security and the fact that you don't have to disable the antivirus for it to work.

Not true. The thing will remain the same. Instead of a mining pool we will became a stacking pool.
Maybe they'll have to make some changes to the program or maybe not.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Yeah, so 15% is a problem.. NBminer is open source and totally legit. Use a decent pool, and create a couple of exceptions in Norton to ignore it and you'll pay 1%. Decent idea, but as the dragons would say, I'm out.

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

I've been mining for over 24 hours since my actual hash rate started showing up. Average is 40 MH/S for this whole time and yet my wallet still shows 0.0000 ETH. GPU is a 2070 Super, more than sufficient for mining. The solution better credit my wallet for all the mining it has done thus far...

If a program is open source doesnt mean that it's also safe. One should read all the lines of code to understand how works. And many other things. Just the fact that one has to disable the Antivirus to use it or open and close certain doors must make us think about its security.

Remerciements0

Re: Crypto not doing anything for me

Yes, my point was all the lines can be read, and understood by the community and peer reviewed. All coin miners trigger antivirus due to the fact they have been used maliciously, and when self installed are not being used in this manner.
