Stop foreign emails/advertisements getting through my firewall?

It is not the firewall that prevents emails from coming in. That is the job of the spam filter.

Set up a filter on your email program and filter out those emails so they will go to your spam folder. Then just empty your spam filter whenever convenient. That is about as much as you can do short of deleting your old email account and creating a new one.
