Hi, I see that in the Antivirus settings there is a list of items excluded from the scan. First of all, from what I understood they are excluded only from the quick scan, while the full scan include them too (please, tell me I'm wrong if that's the case). In the default values of this list, there is only one item in that list: "\System Volume Information\". Why that item is excluded from the scan? Is it possible for a malware to get inside it? I see that normally (unless permissions are changed) the user has not access to it, so I was also wondering whether Norton manage to scan it or not.

System Volume Information holds your System Restore restore points.  Windows does not allow SVI to be modified because doing so would corrupt the restore points.  Therefore, even if there were malware backed up in the restore point, it could not be removed.  So to avoid the possibility of corrupting the SVI, Norton does not include it in scans.  This is not a problem because such malware could not infect your system unless your restored using that restore point, in which case Norton could then detect and remove it.

Hello there. On a further note, I want to ask if we can change this setting at the time of installation or configure it once it's installed? There are some settings that were asked at the time of installation, So I want to know if I can change them now. This also includes configuration of types of scans. Any response will be much appreciated. Cheers

You should not mess with Windows protecting itself. The System Volume Information is not accessible for a reason. It is similar to Norton's Product Tamper Protection feature protecting your Norton installation from being corrupted/changed/deleted.

After installing Norton you can open the classic interface and click on Settings. If you are seeing the new My Norton interface, click on Open beside Device Security. From there you can go through each section and fine tune all the settings available in 360. Just be careful when changing anything. Be sure you fully understand what a feature does. You could end up reducing your protection if you disable the wrong setting.

Thank you for your answers. Regarding the exclusions’ list, is it related to the quick scans only or to the full ones too?

Items excluded from scans are excluded from all scans, both Quick and Full, although the Quick Scan scans locations that malware commonly uses to install itself and run, which are primarily system files and folders, so not typically the places that a user would have a reason to exclude.
