Auto-fill freezes on iPad

When I need to enter a password for a site or app on my iPad, I get the normal prompt to use password Manager, but when I select it and password manager starts to open, it freezes.  I can hit the X in the upper left corner and then open password Manager on another screen.  I have been getting “Error communicating with the server, try again” message, but it connects the second time.  I can then copy and paste the password into the app’s logon box.  Before IOS Update 16.3.1, it worked fine.  I’ve rebooted the iPad.  I suspect that the error message might be the reason the direct approach does not work.
