Are you restarting your computer as suggested in the images? Be sure you are using the Restart command. Not Shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled. If you use Windows 8/8.1, 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

I've only had minor issues due to Norton Driver Updater so far, but there are most definitely improvements needed...

Peterweb, if that is the case with regards the fast restart feature then it is APPALLING that no warning is given by Norton about this. In my case I had to reinstall Windows after running this wretched program, it is clearly a BETA product and it is wrong to charge for a product with so many problems, and of course they didn't acknowledge any responsibility.

It's disgraceful mate, I had to pay to get my PC sorted too and of course Norton want nothing to do with it.

In order to be able to help all of you I would like to ask you to send us your log files executing our Support Tool utility.
The support tool is available under c:\Program Files\Norton\Driver Updater\
Please run the “SupportTool.exe” and follow the instructions. Once it is done, please send me the "ticket number" here via private message - so we can analyze the logs with your report on our server.

Hi, I am really sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I am not able to help you then - without details what exactly has happened. I can't see from your screenshots wich driver you have installed either. And if it was even our software that installed the problematic driver.

ulf.engelmann OF COURSE it was your program, my PC has been running flawlessly for ages, and for some foolish reason I tried your Norton Driver Updater and got the "Well this is embarrassing" message in the middle of updating a driver and then repeated blue screen of death screens. I contacted your people through the chat and they weren't much help and then several phone calls and in the end they just said it wasn't their problem which is pretty shoddy treatment of a long term customer who has spent a lot of money on your products over many years.

This is clearly a beta version product.
Norton Driver updater should have handled the "error" and the appropriate action should be reverted or the appropriate "SupportTool.exe" should have automatically been executed. That is very hard to do when you have a "blue screen", and don't have a "spare" computer with access to the "broken" computer. Norton Support knows this, and won't do anything to alleviate the issue.
This sort of thing is unfortunate for the person it affects, and should be handled by Norton Support promptly.
It is not like this is a "free beta trial software" this is a full version expensive software and more is expected at this price!
The "You can't prove it was our software" approach is downright unacceptable!
Very unprofessional in my humble opinion.

It is not just Norton. In face I just had to help my daughter fix an issue where she would shut down at night and when she started up again her screen would flash, blink and go black. If she could catch it at the right time she could restart the system, and it came up all normal. Turned out it was the Fast Startup feature was enabled. Turning it off resolved the issue.
I'm not saying that would have helped anyone here given that this new Norton offering does seem to be flawed.

Hey Stephen, do yourself a favour and delete this dodgy program before it does any more damage. If you're going to use it make sure you disable Faststart in Windows, it makes it even worse, and there is no warning in the product anywhere about this. It's disgraceful and should not have been released without being fully tested, it's a faulty bete program at best.

Hey peterweb, thanks for trying to help, but surely a company as experienced at product releases as Norton should have given a clear warning at the damage having Faststart on (which is recommended by Windows btw) could cause. This is very poor management.

Hi, our software has already integrated a function that checks if the respective device is working. And then restores the old drivers.
Regarding the "You can't prove it was our software" approach: We always need the log files! For example, we have seen cases where other Driver Updater products were installed in parallel with our software and have installed the drivers, which then led to problems.
Basically every case with problems is very unfortunate and we try to solve all problems.

Welcome to the long list of dissatisfied Norton Customers. You will get no joy out then them as they deny any responsibility for their mistake in sending out a defective update.

Bennettgrower is right, there is an ever growing number of us very unhappy with this dodgy programme, it bricked my desktop and gave me problems with my laptop, my advice is to uninstall the thing before it does any more damage.

Me too BennetB Grower, they're using us as a beta testing group only we didn't get a warning that issues may occur because the product is still full of bugs. Worst product Norton have ever released. I see they're flogging Norton Genie at the moment - ah, no thanks, no new products from Norton, let some other bunny do the beta testing, I won't be doing it again.

I would hope so Uli, but that doesn't help the ones whose computers have already been trashed, we should be compensated for the damage that was done and the inconvenience caused and the time wasted fixing up Norton's mess. As I said before we are being treated as a beta testing group, in spite of your protestations that it's not a beta product, it sure behaves like one, and our sending you log files is helping you resolve the bugs in the programme - that's what beta testers do, I know because I've been in beta testing programmes before. But at least I knew I was using a beta testing product and it was my choice whether to take the risk or not. This programme was promoted as SOLVING problems, not causing them.

"The Driver Updater is not a beta product. The offered drivers are collected, analyzed and tested internally since years. We have millions of drivers in our database! Of course there can be issues within this amount of drivers. However, we are constantly trying to eliminate these problems. There are a handful of people here on the forum with problems which we take very seriously. But this does not mean that the product causes problems in the big mass. And I try to solve all problems here!"

As you know the number of people represented on the forum are just a fraction of the people who are having problems with this wretched programme. Lots of people just couldn't be bothered posting about it, some don't know how etc etc
And I would also like to know what's happening with our request for compensation. I know you said you've asked them but we'd like an answer please.

Pedroski, I know that the number of people represented on the forum always represents only a fraction of the people. But I also see the number of our other support requests - and all these numbers in proportion to the number of all users.

I definitely agree with you!!! I am furious cuz just like urs my pc was running great until i got possessed to try their driver update and i cannot get it back to where it was, it is lagging, sites dont open and I know for a fact it was the ethernt drive which they suggested to update. I paid lots of money for my alienware for this S!@# product to ruin my love. I am not even reaching out to them cuz i no they wont fix or even take responsibility or even own up to their f!@# up and just like you i have been a loyal customer for years using their ultimate package and as you know its not cheap! I am at the point or reinstalling and pray that will fix my issue. And as for their driver update i already uninstalled and wont ever use again.

Our Driver Update creates backups of all originally installed drivers. Restore Points are also created. Windows can thus be resetted.
