Windows 11 (with most recent update) will not open Microsoft Edge (latest update). Could the problem be due to Norton software? How can MS Edge open again? The MS Edge icon/application does nothing, when I click/run it. What is the solution?

Maybe there was an update to Edge that requires a system restart. Be sure you are using the Restart command. Not Shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled. If you use Windows 8/8.1, 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

Thank you for your reply. As I'd stated, "Windows 11 (with most recent update) will not open Microsoft Edge (latest update)." Thus, all restarts (not shutdown and reboot) were fine. The link, to an 8/24/2015 article, applied to Windows 10 and below, not Windows 11. I am working directly with Microsoft, to find the solution. It's still a work in progress.

It does sound like a Windows issue. Please let us know what you find out from Microsoft.
The information in my link does still apply to Windows 11. I recently had to turn off that setting on my daughter's laptop because of issues it was causing. Thanks for pointing out that I need to add Windows 11 to that post.

Well, a MS tech. suggested that I do a clean restore of Windows 11, saving all the non-Windows software. I did that, but I had to re-install all the non-Windows software anyway. (Thanks, "Microcrap.") MS Edge opens now, but it shows the following error (Settings, About MS Edge): "Microsoft EdgeVersion 115.0.1901.203 (Official build) (64-bit). An error occurred while checking for updates: We couldn't create that component (error code 3: 0x80040154 -- system level)." At this point, I don't care about the error. I use Firefox mostly. I'd just wanted MS Edge to be the same other option that I'd been using. It was a "Microcraptic" experience. Thanks for your suggestions.

The error you got states that the reinstallation of Edge may continue to be corrupted. Please try the repair edge suggestion posted earlier. More likely than not this error will degrade into the original issue you were seeing over time.

Microsoft Edge files might be corrupted. Try reinstalling Microsoft Edge.

Well, well, well. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm finally getting around to an update. As of three days ago (8/23/2023, Wed.), MS Edge works as it had been doing. I've re-installed all the non-MS software that I'd been using. The problem is resolved, as far as I know. I still don't know what happened to MS Edge, since I didn't do anything. It's the old "it's not my fault" line, y'all! Seriously, I don't care for all the Windows 11 tricks. It still tries to open software that I set up to open only manually. I'll stop that stuff eventually. I don't need any further suggestions, at this point. Y'all take it easy out there! Don't forget to turn right and go straight, in life.
