stop constant scanning of external hard drive

Just recently Norton has begun asking constantly if I want to quick scan my external hard drive and re-asks 4 or 5 time immediately after I say no.  I ultimately said do it automatically.  Now it constantly rescans my external HD.  How do I get it to stop?

Re: stop constant scanning of external hard drive

Do you leave your external drive plugged in.

Maybe,
1) unplug your ext drive and change USB Drive Scan from Ask Me/On to Off + Apply + Restart (not Shut down) machine.
2) change USB Drive Scan to Ask Me + Restart (not Shut down) machine.
3) plug in ext drive...see if one No satisfies.

Please post back progress.

Re: stop constant scanning of external hard drive

Bit of head scratching this morning to find. Settings - Anti-Virus - Scans & Risks. USB Drive Scan set to OFF?. Mine is set to OFF, have HD permanently connected for Windows File History with no scans or prompts. Do a separate one off scan on that disc every now & then. I think with option On, if you insert a memory stick, it would run a scan on that stick. The fact it it prompting more than once, could this be a dodgy USB connection?
