My new boxed copy of NIS 2011 is due on Thursday 30th September (UK release date)
Why does it always come in a fairly large box and therefore rattle with just a thin manual and CD?
Most software these days comes in a DVD case and is far easier to store.

Could be a bad idea for the DVD case as it could cost more to ship a heavier object. I agree DVD cases are easier to store but take up more space. How about a smaller box as well?
