Local Norton Team on Every Country

I think if Norton have a local AV team on every country would be a nice one. So the team can analyze the new "local" virus that created by local citizen on that country.

For example in my country, Indonesia. The local virus have grown up so much drastically in the last few years. The local AV software of course take a great advantages for this situation, but not my NIS. Sometimes i found that NIS were left behind that local AV software on identifying the local virus. And thats a great embarassment for me. While i'm soo much that confident because i'm using NIS, later on i'm infected with that local virus. My NIS can't even identify it, while the FREE local AV software can clean it in a blink of an eye. What a shame.

Just my humble opinion.

Thank you.

Re: Local Norton Team on Every Country

Couldn't agree more...  However, a regional team would suffice, I think.

I'm in Malaysia, just next to Indonesia.  I do find it strange why old threats could still be circulating locally even through pcs with av protection.  Threats seemed to be evolving somehow, avoiding detection, and could only be identified manually by experienced pc users...

Re: Local Norton Team on Every Country

Actually YOU are the Norton local virus catchers.  If the norton product identifies any suspecious files, it uploads it to the Norton servers.  Also youcan submit any the virus samples you found to Symantec to be added to their virus signatures through this page: http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/submitsamples.jsp

Thank you! Yes that's correct. Samples that are suspicious are submitted automatically and Symantec analyzes them.

Re: Local Norton Team on Every Country

Yes, thats what i'm looking for. Regional Norton Team. Full support high pro team that maintenance the threads regionally. Cool right ! :D

@ dong_chung : please add the MANUALLY submit button on the next NIS build. So its integrated with NIS GUI. I think that button is the long awaited button for all of us.

Thank you.

Thank you for your insightful suggestion! We will discuss it internally.

Re: Local Norton Team on Every Country

dong_chung, even though suspicious samples are automatically sent for analysis, it is not what the original idea of this thread is about.

We're talking about threats that are NOT recognized by Norton, or are able to avoid detection thus infecting a protected PC.

The common AV users will not be able to identify threats that were not picked up by Norton.  For the experienced users who can identify threats and submit samples to Norton, that's all these users are limited to do.  And sadly, no, we are not paid by Symantec to catch threats for submission.

IMHO, having a regional team will help combat threats as locality, time, and network associates will be of great resources.

Re: Local Norton Team on Every Country

Thank you and understood! We have operation centers in China and Japan and handles the threats undetected by Norton in the geographical region. While we strive to do our best in detecting region specific threats and you see threats that we miss, please submit your samples via our response site shown above. AV industry also shares samples to help improve the overall detection rates and adopts more advanced solutions like behavioral and the Cloud solutions to improve the detection rates as the first line of defense. Teams at every country is definitely a good idea but may not necessarily be the optimum way of unitilizing the resource. I am sure that we will definitely consider the idea if we find that threats are becoming more country-specific and the missed rates per country is becoming a core concern for our customers. Thank you again for your suggestion!
