NSBU 22.6.0.142 - APPCRASH - SYMHTML.DLL

Attempting to open the "Usage" Performance Graph crashes NSBU.

To reproduce:

  1. Open NSBU > Performance > Graphs
  2. Click Usage. NSBU will crash.

I can reproduce this issue on two 22.6.0.142 machines. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Re: NSBU 22.6.0.142 - APPCRASH - SYMHTML.DLL

I 'm sorry, but I had failures every time I accessed the performance tab. I have been trying it today and have not experienced a single problem for at least 10 different attempts. I have varied the lenght of time that I stayed on each screen and tried every different scenerio. So,from my perspective it's GONE!!!

I can read??? I am just relaying my experience.

Thank you

I

Re: NSBU 22.6.0.142 - APPCRASH - SYMHTML.DLL

This started to happen to my Norton Internet Security recently. Sometimes it crashes, but on occasion it's fine.  But we are still protected, correct?

Re: NSBU 22.6.0.142 - APPCRASH - SYMHTML.DLL

Happens for me in N360  Win8.1 64 bit, not (so far) in NIS Win Vista SP2.

Forgive my ignorance/stupidity but how do you get Problem signature and AppCrash stuff in Win 8.1?

Re: NSBU 22.6.0.142 - APPCRASH - SYMHTML.DLL

I have this issue too. Windows 7 64 bit. I have the latest update to NS. I see it has been ongoing for some weeks now. I have no idea when it started for me as I've not looked at this area of NS for ages. It all used to work faultlessly, but now our paid product gives cause for concern (well it does for me anyway). Hmm time to go for a freeby maybe - which would be a shame as I like NS. Norton, please fix to restore my confidence in NS.

Windows 10 Home 64 bit, NS version 22.14.0.54 (as of April 2018), MBAM free, SUPERAntispyware,Trusteer Rapport

Re: NSBU 22.6.0.142 - APPCRASH - SYMHTML.DLL

Got this twice within one minute today (and I did not try accessing any performance tabs etc.). I guess Norton restarted automatically as I didn't see any notification on the desktop.

Re: NSBU 22.6.0.142 - APPCRASH - SYMHTML.DLL

Yes, you are right. I really had to look at the announcement to find out in just one little line:

"[Update on 16-June-2016: The 22.7 product update has been pulled back from the Live Update server and will not be available for download]"

I am not happy with the way this is communicated by Norton.

  • Why not create a new message that reads: "Norton 22.7 pulled" ?
  • Why was it pulled? Is there a serious security issue I need to be aware of?
  • What to do if you have this version? Do I need to roll back? Re-install?
  • When will a new version be released?

Eventually one can find a reason here:

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/action-center-saying-norton-not-r...

Saying:

"Symantec is working on the issue where the “Windows Action Center incorrectly reports the Norton Security status” and we will update the forum thread once we have any updates on an ETA for a release with a fix. This issue does not impact the security of the pc as long as the Norton product reports its features are enabled."

Cheers,

Dave

Hello Dave

Here is an explanation that I requested.

Here is Sunil's post about the pulling of 22.7

Re: action center saying Norton is not running after the 22.7.0.75 update

Posted: 17-Jun-2016 | 8:24PM • Permalink new

Update:

Customers who have already received the Norton 22.7 update do NOT need to uninstall and reinstall the previous version. Symantec is working on a fix to be released shortly to address the issue where "Windows Action Center incorrectly reports the Norton Security status." This issue does not impact the security of the pc as long as the Norton product reports its features are enabled.

Thanks
