Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Just found out that Symantec has business relationships with NRA. Although I have been using their product for many years, I will consider an alternative internet security product as my subscription expires.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

My subscription will be cancelled and switch to a competitors product upon expiration as well as long as Symantec offers a discount to NRA members.  Here is the discount offer for NRA members

https://gizmodo.com/symantec-cuts-ties-with-nra-amid-backlash-over-schoo...

Symantec, one of the country’s largest security software companies, has ended its partnership with the National Rifle Association, Gizmodo has learned.

The company is the latest to sever ties with the NRA following a backlash stemming from the last week’s school shooting in Parkland, Florida, in which 14 students and three staff members were killed.

Symantec had previously offered a variety of discounts to NRA members who purchased its Norton antivirus software. On Thursday, First National Bank and Enterprise Holdings, which operates three major car rental services, likewise cut ties with the gun advocacy group.

LifeLock, the identity theft protection company acquired by Symantec last year, will likewise no longer be offering discounts to NRA members.

Thank you, Norton/Symantec, for standing up for what is right.  I will definitely keep my account with you!

I notice, though that the Symantic/NRA site is still up.

I've noticed that too. It will probably take awhile to discontinue the discount. Then again the discount may not be in effect at the end of order.  Just a thought.

We’re sorry, but this page can't be found or is unavailable. In the meantime, why not visit other useful areas of Norton via the links below, or the links in the Navigation at the top of the page. Also you can search by clicking on the magnifying glass icon, in the top right of your screen. Just because we can't find the page, doesn't mean you can't search for it, and find what you were looking for.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Kudos to common sense, kudos to Symantec and other business that severed their ties with NRA.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Interesting, I have just the opposite opinion.  As a result of Symantec's cowardice in bowing to an uneducated public that is misguided by a disingenuous media, I will no longer be a customer of any of their products or services.  It is so sad to see the mind-numbed liberal robots posting their lunacy here.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

That is all that you and like you can do. Call names your opponents, bully them and wave your guns, i.e., adult toys, contributing to mass shootings and deaths of civil population. Leaders of NRA are in a state of paranoia in relationship to their opponents.

And remember, "liberty" isn't a dirty word. Our country is built on it.

LIBERTY - "The state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views. Liberty concerns the absence of arbitrary restraints and takes into account the rights of all involved. As such, the exercise of liberty is subject to capability and limited by the rights of others."

"Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality."

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Lunacy, that's rich. I suppose killing 17 people with an automatic weapon is de rigeur to your way of thinking.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

How ironic that modern liberals wear the badge of "liberty" so proudly, yet are the most intolerant, oppressive, thought-controlling hypocrites on the planet.  By the way, you might not want to use the first result of your Google search (e.g. Wikipedia) for your sources, as it only makes my point that you are intellectually lazy.

Both liberals and conservatives want the same thing - freedom, chance for prosperity, an end to suffering, safety, health, and low crime.  Liberals believe that government is the answer to all social ills,  must exist to ensure no one is in need, and is the sole arbiter of civil liberties.  Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, and a strong defense. So, while we differ in our opinions of how to approach life's greatest problems, we actually agree on the desired outcomes.

Claiming that all NRA members want to kill children with automatic weapons and therefore must be stopped at all costs is exactly the same type of name-calling and bullying of which you are accusing your opponents.  I realize that is a favorite talking point of the left, but perhaps everyone should try coming up with their own thoughts.  It's a pretty cool thing.  You should try it sometime.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Calm down folks.  This is primarily a place to discuss Norton related problems, not a place to air your political points of view.

Thanks.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Too late.  Symantec chose to make things political, so political it will be...

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

How did you conclude from my and another respondent that we imply that members of NRA want to kill children with automatic weapons? Cool off. Don't go to that extreme labeling.

I grabbed for you a first found definition of liberty on internet because I am short on time. Do you have another much different definition?

"Limited government" is demagoguery of those politicians, and their contributors, who have unlimited means. Ask your grandparents or other relatives of the same age how they survive with "limited government" and their current retirement savings and SS payments?  How many of them have pensions now? Wait another 5-10 years and ask again. There will be a lot of grey hair people still working for a minimum wage.

Are you yourself able to save enough for your future? I do not mean that government has to provide everything, but facilitate thoughtfully and financially responsible social support system.

What is "strong defence"? Consistently spending money on lost wars and keep arm manufacturing people employed?

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I've been told many times to avoid arguing with liberals, because this is exactly what happens.  There is no exchange of honest ideas here, just reiteration of tired old talking points.

"Limited government" is not the same as anarchy.  Of course we need government.  The constitution is pretty clear on its role.  It is a pretty quick read.  I highly recommend it.

And you will find lots of conservatives that also disagree with the wasted lives and money spent on wars that posed no threat to our country.

Back to my original point...I have every right to cease doing business with a company that has adopted a political or social position with which I don't agree.  Sadly, liberals are threatened by such individual thought.

Ahh, liberty...

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

You have thoughts, but a limited patience and running to conclusions too fast. That is why, perhaps, you avoid arguing with "liberals". Where did you get an idea that somebody is denying you right to not agree with Symantec's decision? Who is threatened by your thought? Why? Where did you get it? Think out of box!

BTW, I have constitution and I read it already.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

This is not the place to discuss politics, this board should only be used to discuss problems and solutions for software it should not get bogged down in political discourse because it will go on forever!

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Agree. Finished.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Symantec chose to make an issue with the NRA.  They decided to stop discount for members of the NRA.  I personally did not know there was a discount but I'm glad that I now know of Symantec's decision.  I'm a software developer and I supplier of a large industry with thousands of stores across America.  I currently have over 150 of these stores that I developed software for and support these stores computers with Norton.  I have the power to remove Norton from all of these store and move to another protection software.  This will happen starting Monday.  I will also be removing from my/family personal PC's.

SoulAsylum, Symantec and all other companies that chose to enter the political realm are part of the problem.  Corporate will monitor these comments and I will be contact them Monday.  Odd that your in activity you had no replies to the liberal idiots.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Since I cannot find a contact to send this to at Norton, I will post it here, expecting the thread to be closed, or maybe deleted due to the small  minds at Norton.

This NRA member, who did not even realize I had a discount, will NO LONGER use this software.

If the execs are Norton do not believe in my rights in regard to both the 2nd and 1st amendment; I will go elsewhere.

Now, go ahead and delete.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Have used Symantic since 2008. I am also a proud Life Member of the NRA. This company has no business taking a political stance and inferring the NRA is responsible in any way for gun violence in our country. I will not be renewing my membership.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I hope this part of the forum can remain civil.  I do not believe we need to debate the NRA here one way or another.  Suffice it to say I have been a long time purchaser of Norton products for all my devices and I did so not based at all on politics.  I will say that for some crazy reason, Symantec decided to focus on politics and make it an issue.  Symantec customers had no reason to know what the executives personal opinions were.  I did not care and do not care.  I do care that they introduced their personal opinions into their business which I am a customer.  Big mistake.  There are obviously Symantec customers who both support the NRA and who oppose the NRA.  Why in the world would a for profit company decide to take a position on this.  Does Symantec believe that somehow this will make our world safer.  Not a chance that their business decision would impact our safety one way or another.  It will however impact customers' decision on what company to deal with.  Symantec's business is highly competitive and now like many long time customers I will need to review options.  I suggest these companies stay off the third rail and focus on their business.  The executives and employees can still politic all they want in their personal lives.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Will find alternative product and uninstall ASAP

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Symantic chose to make it "political", not us.  They are dis-respecting easily half of their US user base.  I have used and recommended Norton products, both business and personal, for over 30 years.  No more.

All future Norton "purchase / renewal money" will be going to the NRA.  Symantic doesn't have to "like" or "love" the NRA - just don't discriminate against them or the members.  Remember what happened to The Dixi Chicks?  How is the NFL doing these days.

Hey, Symantic:  "Just Shut Up and Protect our Computers!"

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

McAfee is a good alternative. Something bad has changed with Symantec/Norton as the updates keep braking the install. I have run RnR too many times in the last few months. I'll contact them to get my money back and install McAfee ( a better deal, too)

PS. I , too, am a Life member of the NRA

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Symantec will make our world safer.  NRA need not apply.

In the words of Greg Clark Chief Executive Officer

  • "Greater diversity and inclusion: I recently signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge along with more than 150 other CEOs. The goal is to rally the business community to advance diversity and inclusion. In addition, Symantec earned a 100-percent score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, earning a “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality” designation for the 9th consecutive year. Progress towards our diversity and inclusion goal is not easy, but we are committed to continuing to work on this important issue."

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Unfortunately my subscription with Norton ends Sept 2019.  I will surely not renew when the time comes and I did disable automatic renewal.  It is sad that Norton follows along with the liberal nuts and how they put blame on the NRA for mental nut cases like this one in FL.  The NRA had ZERO to do with it.  I am so disappointed in Symantec and will never spend a dime with them or recommend them to anyone

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Symantec opened up the political can of worms

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Like most of you stated above - I have been a long time Norton user, but no more.  Symantic decided to become political and voice their dislike for customers that also happen to be NRA members.  So since I have a choice of who protects my computers, I called Symantic customer service and got my $140 back.  I bet Norton's competitors will be thanking Symantic all the way to the bank after this bone-headed move.

Symantic --- "I have always liked your products best.  Let us know when you grow a backbone and want to serve all customers."

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Need a tissue there Caitlyn?

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

What happens if the member of the LGBT community is also a NRA member?  Are they still considered equal and included?  What is your answer to that Mr. Greg Clark?

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Everyone: Please allow me to invite each one of you to read the terms of use here on the forums. https://community.norton.com/en/legal

As has been stated more than once this is NOT the forum for a political discussion and violates the terms of usage. Voice your political concerns to Symantec Corporate.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I too am an NRA member that will be cancelling my subscription. I am very dismayed that Norton chose to politicize their product by making a public announcement to no longer support the  NRA. I didn't even know they did. Or that they offered NRA member discounts, but now their stance "against the NRA" is making the national news.

This is total ignorance. It was the NRA that pushed for legislation adopting the initial national data base and a background check. Which by the way is a flawed background check due to many states not reporting all convicted felons or those adjudicated mentally ill to the data base.

Those that say this forum should not be used for political debate.... sorry but Norton just made their product political and apparently chose to do so in a very public way that is now making national news. Certainly there will be those that applaud this, but there are also going to be many, many law-abiding NRA member gun owners such as myself who will likely be cancelling.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Sorry SoulAsylum --- Symantec opened this Pandora's Box by being political.  From what I understand this forum, which is sponsored by Symantec is to post problems and solutions.  OK then ---

Problem:  Symantec has moved from a product and service company into a political organization

Solution:  Stop using all Symantec products and services until they treat everyone, including NRA members as equals that deserve to be included as valued customers

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I'm a supporter of the NRA and not so much for Norton! l will  post this on Facebook and other social media sites! this was not Political Norton made it that way, anyway May- 1- 2018 is when my contract is up I'm done with Norton, there are a lot of good virus protection company's out there, so  now I'm working on the Corporation I retired from that's also a NRA supporter, I have used Norton for many years and I'm so disappointed in them, What has the NRA done? the didn't kill anyone and in case you don't get it guns don't kill people "People kill People"

Soul Asylum

As I stated earlier. I called Norton. Rachel at Norton directed me to community.norton.com to air my complaint. So you can drop it about this not being the place. This is where they directed me.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Just look at the attacker in PA that used two knives in 2014 to injure 22 students. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/stabbings-reported-pennsylvania-hi...  Do we now outlaw all knives in America!  Do we outlaw all trucks because they can be used to mow pedestrians down?  If someone wants to do harm, they will find a way.

No actual email addresses to contact any of the execs. However, I did notice there are VERY FEW woman in your executive dining room. So badmouth gun owners and women execs too. Maybe women need to boycott norton too.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

For SoulAsylum and others that do not want use to voice their disgust with Symantec over this issue.

Just help push Symantec to admit they are being used like a tool by the anti-2nd amendment haters and re-position themselves to include everyone like they say in there corporate pledge, and get out of political issues.  I for one will stop posting and go away, and I assume many others would do the same.

I generally like Norton products and would have no issues continuing to use them so long as I feel comfortable that company I support is not judging me on the associations / memberships I chose to have.
