Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Just found out that Symantec has business relationships with NRA. Although I have been using their product for many years, I will consider an alternative internet security product as my subscription expires.

With Symantec (Norton) going with the crazed, civil liberty attack on the NRA and it's members, I WILL NOT BE RENEWING MY SUBSCRIPTION WITH YOU! Good luck, you just peed off a lot of Americans with your nonsense.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Symantec will has lost many customers.and will.continue to lose more for this horrible decision. You hair trigger snowflakes are a menace to America. Go home...this isn't it.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Hey Taco! How does it feel to be a coward talking crap when you don’t have to face them? Your worthless and acting like a 5 year old! Grow up and get a box of Kleenex!

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

HELLO PCMATIC, GOODBYE SYMANTEC (NORTON)   I am a member of the NRA and since you don't want to deal with us I am letting my subscription expire and moving.  Sorry!

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I have been using Symantec for about 5 years now on several personal computers, I also am a sys admin for large org. with over 1000 systems that I recommended Symantec use when I setup the site about 3 years ago. Since Symantec decided to bring politics into it regarding bashing the NRA, I will NOT be renewing my personal systems in 208 days from now when it ends. And I will also recommend that we Phase out the use at my place of work when we begin our system upgrade in September. I really wish Symantec would have just kept their big mouths shut and had stayed out of politics.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Symantec and the long list of other companies are right.

You and the NRA are wrong.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Since you CONTACTED me with your childish triad you made it my business find out what your position is on "this" forum. Since you state "these" forums, I have to assume you are nothing more than a simple little troll not worth me wasting my time responding to your childish attempts to make yourself appear to be someone of importance. So little man crawl back under your LITTLE rock and go try to impress someone that your are a man or whatever that has important standing. Where ever than might be. Bye, Bye sweet pea...

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Of course Symantec, finally true to their colors, will delete what they dont like. Even in an "Off Topic" forum.Yes, amazing how, overnight, a corporation can go from reputable to sleezy. I have already been aggravated with various problems associated with Norton AV - being a notorious resource hog, previous Identity Safe debacle, designing their controls to allow LESS user control of their systems (shutting off backgrounds tasks cant be done, except temporarily) and the countless 'freezing' during background tasks that required reboot. At some point the software becomes the thing it was intended to fight. Nonetheless, at the end of subscription time, I always complacently renew. Of course, their recent vulgar polarizing  their own customers, publicly, to soapbox personal reactionistic bias certainly motivates the end or 15 years use. This may not hurt Symantec, but I pray it does badly.

I just did something I haven't done in a long time. Donated to NRA - $100 in honor of the smarta** above, FrankV.

NRA thanks you taco Frank

(Since I'm done with Symantec in a couple months, all notifications and emails are off. )

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Goodbye. Just uninstalled Norton 360. NRA Life Member can't so business with Symantec.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Have owned weapons since 1956. Never had even 1 of them do ANYTHING legal or ILLEGAL on it's own!  Until I went to Vietnam as a Marine and came home and took a job as a US Marshal, never shot AT or KILLED anyone or even HEARD of any weapon doing it ON IT's OWN ACCORD!  I have been a NRA member for many decades and taught many kids and others  HOW TO DEFEND THEMSELVES, and to date only 2 of them have needed that training THANK GOD!  BUT, with EVERY possible government agency that SHOULD HAVE STOPPED this mess FAILING COMPLETELY to do their jobs! Don't BLAME the NRA OR LEGAL Gun owners for GOVERNMENT FAILURES!  That is exactly what LIBERALS and now Symantec is doing!  I have used Symantec for DECADES to defend computers, but, since they DECIDED to show they are weak, I decided to go to OTHER sources!  Didn't want to, but I DO NOT "BOW" to ANYONE's false, lying TOTALLY POLITICAL TALKING POINTS!

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I have renewed my subscription and will continue to do so. Thank you Symantec for discontinuing your partnership with the NRA, many people applaud you!

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

To everyone and even you Frank V.  In a way Symantec might have done us a favor by slapping the NRA and by extension gun owners (me) in the face.  I just received a refund of $140 for cancelling my Norton 360 subscription and purchased  McAfee Total Protection for $43.  Not only will Symantec loose money for their political agenda, McAfee and other companies will make money on the back of Symantec's arrogance and stupidly.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Frank V is a paid agitator. Look at his posts. Nothing of substance, just childish taunts. And btw, appears to be the only one on this forum trying to defend Symantec’s stupid decision to go public with being anti-NRA / 2A. Fellow NRA members: responding to Frank V’s childish taunts is like talking to a 5 year old. Don’t give him the satisfaction but please DO continue posting support for the NRA and cancellation of Norton. McAfee, BitDefender, PC Matic are all excellent alternatives. I am switching to McAfee.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Hi Symantec:

From Canada, thank you so much for having the guts to dump the NRA for discounts. More and more corporations have done the same. I am glad to be associated with Symantec and the other corporations that dropped the NRA. All the best.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Well, if it is true and Norton is dropping support for the NRA, then I will be dropping my support for Norton and their products.  I really liked their products, but don't think they should change their support based upon an outcry of anti-gun activists.  I will always support the Second Amendment.  As you probably know, evil will always find a way to be evil, with or without guns.  There are plenty of stories around the world where people are killed with something other than a gun.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I belong in this forum.  I use and believe in the Symantec product.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Yes thank you Symantec, bold move.

Much appreciated,

KC

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Did Symantec offer discounts to NRA members?  If so, were they really discontinued?  If they were, did NRA do something vilely offensive recently that i might have missed in the news?

Regards,

H.B.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

On second thought, since there already seems to be a political "meltdown" on this forum:

I'm advocating for this thread to be locked.

Take care,

Alright.  I think i got thrown off because it looked like before this topic was under "Forum Feedback" and now, it is in the "Forum Clubhouse".  Regardless, this is a raging dumpster fire that needs to be shutdown...

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

These******** that tell people the shooter at that school was using an automatic weapon are clueless to what an automatic weapon is .......  AR-15 means armalite rifle..... which is maker of AR-15.....  the AR. does not mean automatic rifle LOL.

Also since Symantec is becoming so political .... and since I am a proud NRA member I will be, at the end of my subscription ending my use of Symantec products and going to another security product after many years using Norton.  PCMEDIC here I come!!!!!

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I guess Norton was so overwhelmed by the decision to stop partnering with the NRA that they closed the thread. No one needs to respond to this, but I sent the following comment to Norton via the "feedback" portion of Norton Security:

"I am disgusted by Symantec's' decision to cut ties with the NRA. I have been a loyal customer since the '90's, but I will be shopping for a new anti-virus provider after my subscription runs out. I guess everyone blames the NRA for all the countries shooting sprees. Go ahead and repeal the 2nd amendment and the law abiding citizen’s right to free speech and the right to bear arms. I'm pretty sure you will get more feedback from others."

(My remark about receiving more feedback was understated.)

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I have been using Symantec/Norton products since the days of MS-DOS. Many, many years. Many, many products. I've stuck with you through the ups and downs, during times that your products were excellent and times that they were...well, let's just say, a few releases that were not so much. But overall, and especially in recent years, I've been very happy to be a Symantec consumer.

I don't post politics on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Like most Americans, I go about my life working hard and not making waves. But I am also a lifetime NRA member. Symantec, you have unnecessarily offended millions of users. I'm not here to debate the issues behind this decision. I'm merely here to let you know how sad I am that you bowed to the pressure of one side. You could have stayed out of it like Fred Smith of Federal Express did. Yes, I realize that inaction is a statement itself. But that statement can be interpreted as simply a choice to stay out of the waters. Symantec's concrete action is an overt statement, one that is inevitably seen as a slap in the face to the members and supporters of the NRA.

I know that the monetary value of my subscription is insignificant, but I imagine the loss of goodwill is not, especially since I am certain it is shared by thousands, if not millions, of users who will not take the time to post. They will simply leave. And although I do not normally support boycotts, I am seriously weighing whether I want to join them.

I have made a sincere effort to be respectful in this post. I respectfully ask Symantec to reverse its decision so that I do not have to make one of my own.

Respectfully,

CTTE

Hello nychucky Free speech is a different issue while using these forums for a political statement violates "Terms of Usage" which we all SHOULD have read when opening an account here. For that reason and ONLY for that reason will we advocate the removal and/or locking of topics that violate those terms. Its not about taking away freedom of speech but rather the improper usage of this enterprise which we do not own and are granted use of for a totally different purpose. Have a great day today!!

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I didn't feel that I was doing, or saying, anything that Symantec/Norton was stating when they dissolved their affiliation with the NRA. If I violated the terms of usage, it was unintentional, but one can't read all the fine print of every agreement. Does Norton want to terminate my subscription, or disallow me from posting or participating in forums? Let me know in advance, so I can stay protected by another product.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Blaming millions of law abiding citizens for one idiots actions sounds just like communism

I'll buy my anti-virus from an  American company that stands behind our Constitution.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Seems as though the majority of posts are AGAINST Norton's decision to take a PUBLIC stand against the NRA and it's 5 million members. And will be cancelling their subscription to Norton. My guess is only a minuscule fraction of NRA members are looking at this forum and posting, but will still be cancelling their Norton subscription. Great move Symantec. I'm sure your shareholders will be pleased with the loss of revenue.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I will join the long list of NRA members who have stated our disgust at the actions of Symantec. As soon as I heard about the attacks on the NRA, I renewed my membership early. I was planning to subscribe to Lifelock but I will not do that now. I have used Norton Security for many years but I am looking at other companies that will not sell out to the trolls at the first sign of a threat.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

McAfee, PCMATIC, etc.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

BYE!

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Yeah, sounds like a Canadian.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I've been a Norton user since 2008. I'm a proud NRA member and will be canceling my subscription unless Symantec reverses their position. Just turned off my auto-renewal option, expires in May.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I wanted to express my absolute disgust at Symantec for their stance on this issue and will be ending my over 10-year subscription to Norton. I'm an NRA member but never knew about, nor took advantage of any NRA discounts for one. Symantec never advertised these discounts that I'm aware of so why make an issue out of their NRA affiliation now. Dumb move Symantec to take a political stance against NRA members and just about every conservative out there, including those that support the second amendment but aren't NRA members. I already turned off my auto-renewal (I suggest those of you wanting to stop supporting Symantec products do the same) and will let my subscription expire as of this May unless Symantec changes their position.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

From the Chicago Trib:

....

In addition to acting as responsible corporate citizens, these companies (ridding themselves of the NRA) are teeing up an important new business strategy. They’re aligning themselves with an emerging market of younger, more socially conscious consumers and financial backers who want to connect with companies that address big social justice issues, including a crackdown on gun violence.

The corporate backlash against the NRA and its approximately 5 million members shows no sign of abating. In addition to United Airlines, the anti-NRA crowd includes Delta Air Lines, Hertz, Avis Budget, Enterprise, Symantec (owner of the LifeLock identity theft protection company), SimpliSafe (home security), insurer MetLife and First National Bank of Omaha, which offered a branded NRA Visa credit card.

Amazon, Google and Apple are under pressure to stop offering an NRA channel through their streaming services.

That channel is sort of an ongoing infomercial, showcasing segments about various firearms and gun-related issues, including one about the difficulty of buying an AR-15 semi-automatic weapon in California because of red tape and a 10-day waiting process. The NRA’s correspondent boasted about getting the gun in time for Christmas.

There are online petitions calling for an end to this programming. One petition on Change.org had about 166,000 supporters by midday Monday. So far, the digital behemoths aren’t discussing the NRA streaming issue.

Nevertheless, the controversy isn’t going away. Each company will be pressed into the uncomfortable position of justifying to customers and shareholders why they’re essentially partnering with the gun lobbying group.

Big Kudos to Symantec for being a forward-leaning progressive company.  The tiny number of NRA crybabies that Symantec sheds is nothing.  Symantec and the other companies shedding themselves of the NRAtards will be financially advantaged for doing so.  The American people no longer want a mindless gun lobby promoting killing.

Bravo Symantec.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I JUST joined the NRA.  My engineering company of ~120 employees has ended there business relationship with Symantec.

Symantec has made their choice.  So have US.  Norton was not that good and their support was a joke anyway.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

And.... from Newsweek:

The National Rifle Association's financing and followers might be enough to mute some politicians and hamstring gun control legislation, but its money and membership are peanuts to big businesses who have flouted the group in the days since a 19-year-old slaughtered 17 people at a Parkland, Florida, high school with a legally purchased military-style rifle.

In the past, the NRA has advertised that its members could enjoy discounted deals from companies like Avis Budget Group, Best Western, United Airlines, MetLife and Wyndham Worldwide. But since Thursday, those companies and several others have announced they have ended or will soon end their corporate partnerships with the gun group. The announcements come in the wake of the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14 and as much of the public has buffeted the NRA and called for stricter gun regulations.

The corporate exodus, however, isn't over these companies' values or their positions on gun regulations, according to William Klepper, a professor at professor at the Columbia Business School—it's simply about prudence.

"Is it ideological?" Klepper said to Newsweek. "I think it's flat out good business on their behalf."

A demonstrator from the group CodePink holds up a banner as National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre delivers remarks during a news conference at the Willard Hotel on December 21, 2012, in Washington, D.C.—one week after Adam Lanza used an assault-style rifle to slaughter 20 schoolchildren and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The NRA faces renewed criticism after a 19-year-old used a military-style AR-15 rifle to gun down 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14.

"We've reached a tipping point with regard to this issue [of gun control] in the general society and companies that are worth their salt—and CEOs specifically—are constantly trying to read the tea leaves," Klepper said. "They're not operating in a vacuum; they've gotten the reaction from the constituents. And, in most cases, their constituents are their customers."

Klepper said businesses are quicker to cross the NRA because their clients far outnumber the NRA's purported membership of 5 million. "It's an impressive number when you throw it out, but now you've got to put in context," he said. For context, TrueCar.com, an online car-buying service that announced its discount deal with the NRA would end on February 28, had nearly 10 million visitors to its website last month, according to SimilarWeb.com, which tracks Internet traffic.

"Really, the principled voice that we're hearing is not from the government, it's from businesses. That's because they respond immediately to the voice of the people," Klepper said, adding, "that's what good businesses do."

Ok, so all you NRAtards whining and crying.... "I'm gonna leave... wah wah wah...."

Nobody cares.

Just leave.  You will not be missed..... financially or otherwise.

Go and whine and cry elsewhere.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

Typical tide pod eating leftist. copies and pastes an article someone else wrote because the moron can't come up with one for itself. Then throws a couple of his/hers/still trying to decide, childish name calling. it says "Go and whine and cry elsewhere." Meanwhile this waste of humanity is the one whining and crying! Pathetic yet laughable. I'm going to buy more 30round mags, because I can, while this asshat sits in mommys basement wondering why no one likes it.

Re: Symantec has business relationship with NRA

I have been a member of the NRA for years, and additionally a customer of both Norton Anti Virus and Lifelock since...Norton 2012 Lifelock 2015.

I am not going to debate the pro and cons of the NRA, gun control, etc. The folks here that have an opinion have that opinion, and nothing I write is going to change that. I am saddened at the hatred in some of the posts I have seen here. Very sad.

Here are my issues with the subject. My Airline of choice is SWA. They have never been a NRA discount partner. I am not sure if they have been approached, but if they have, and declined I have absolutely no problem with their decision.

However, Symantec DID decide to take advantage of the profits they would receive by offering discounts through the NRA. Then when it became "uncomfortable" to have that "relationship" in a frantic knee jerk decision, they bailed.

Now, for a company that rents cars, sells flowers, etc. That is not a big deal. However, and this is my issue, Symantec has my personal data, all of it. I am not comfortable with someone that "knee jerks" having that information any longer.

I have written and called Symantec, advised them that I respect their decision, but no longer "trust" them with my personal data. NOT because of their stance, but because of the way they reacted. I have requested that they erase all my personal data, and provide documentation showing they have. They have advised they can not do that.

While I respect their decision and position, I feel that anyone that wants to leave them, and ensure they have none of their personal data should be respected as well. I have now allowed others to handle this for me in a legal manner.

I have also advised the NRA they should no longer attempt to secure discounts. I have never used a NRA discount. Don't care about them. In fact I don't think any organization should offer them whether it be AARP, Airline Clubs, etc. As is evident here, too much crap!

Finally, and what concerns me the most, the entire world, media, etc. is no longer talking about solving this horrific problem we have, but taking about stupid discounts! Very Very SAD!
