Simple(?) patch question

Hopefully, a simple question with a simple answer.  Start computer. Open Norton. Do live update.  Update completes.  Get message that Patch is available.  Activate Patch.  Then get message stating that all applications must be closed.  I have nothing running except Norton.  Live Update then says "The following application(s) must be closed before patch can be applied"  The application that is 'open' is Web Browser (Norton Identity Safe native host).

Just what exactly am I suppose to close?  I know the patch should be installed on the next reboot but want to know why patch will not complete.  Thanks.

Re: Simple(?) patch question

Are you using Chrome browser, with it set to keep background apps/extensions running when you close the browser? That would keep the Norton Identity Safe extension active. That may be what the patch installation is looking to get you to close.

Just restart your computer and the update will get done.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Simple(?) patch question

Hello

I always just restart my computer when a patch needs to be applied. It's less trouble than having to fins everything and then close it all up for it to get applied.  You should always restart your computer whenever you install a new update in any program so that it can be installed completely.By getting into that habit, then any patches will get applied. It's also good to get in the habit of running Live Update after a new update because sometimes there might be another part to the update or another complete update.  Just my dime's worth (with inflation).

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: Simple(?) patch question

Thanks for the answer.  I am using the Chrome browser and do restart, but was curious if there was another 'solution'.

Re: Simple(?) patch question

Appreciate that you accounted for inflation.  I usually restart but just wasn't sure if there was something else I could or should do.  Thanks for taking the time to respond.
