Problem with Norton Outlook Antispam Plug-in

After troubleshooting an issue with Outlook 365 version 1811 (Build 11029.20108), I have determined that the Norton Security Outlook plugin is causing a problem with Outlook's "Quick Steps" menu and functionality.

With the plugin installed and enabled, the Quick Steps menu is either empty or disappeared or is greyed out, causing it to not function.

When I disable the plugin, the Quick Steps menu returns and functions as it should.

This is consistent and repeatable on Windows 10 (latest version) with the Office 365 version of Outlook (latest version) and Norton Security Premium (latest version).

Can this please be fixed ASAP?

Does Norton support read these messages?  I was told by Norton online chat that they do, but I haven't received a reply.

Is anyone here?

Re: Problem with Norton Outlook Antispam Plug-in

Well, you did post over New Years.

Most posters here are just users like you. There have been other users here with problems with the Anti Spam plug in for Outlook. If your email server settings are the more secure port settings, Norton cannot scan the email anyway. Best to just let your ISP spam filters do their job, and set up filters in Outlook itself to deal with whatever your ISP misses.

It was New Years but now it's been four days.

Thanks for the suggestion, but if the plugin has an issue, then I expect it to be resolved.  "Don't use it" isn't a proper resolution.

Re: Problem with Norton Outlook Antispam Plug-in

Hello

I have found that Outlook does a better job with Antispam than Norton does, so I have just disabled it. If your ISP uses ports other than 110 and 80, then the Anti Spam won't work. It has been like this for many years. Norton can not scan the encrypted emails so it works only with 110 and 80 which most ISP's don't use any more. This has been mentioned by peterweb up above. I have Office 2013 and I have found that Outlook does a much better job with putting emails into the Junk Folder after being told which emails are Junk once. There have been very few errors with good emails being put into the Spam Folder. This is something which won't be fixed most likely since it is more secure in not trying to read encrypted emails. ISP's are supposed to filter out most of the spam emails.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: Problem with Norton Outlook Antispam Plug-in

Thanks for replying.  That's fine and all, but this isn't a question of which anti-spam system is better or whether they even work.  This is a matter of what appears to be a bug with the product, which is consistent and reproducible.  I'm expecting Symantec to acknowledge and fix the bug, just as I would any other software vendor.

Suggesting that I use a different anti-spam solution (e.g. my ISP's or Outlook's) doesn't address the root of this problem.

Re: Problem with Norton Outlook Antispam Plug-in

See this Norton KB. Scroll down to the Supported protocols and ports section.

Re: Problem with Norton Outlook Antispam Plug-in

It sounds like we're talking different languages here.

This is NOT an issue of protocols or ports.

It's an issue with the Norton plug-in interfering with and disabling one of Outlook's features (Quick Steps).

If you don't use Quick Steps, then you likely won't have noticed this issue.  But if you try it, you'll see that there's an issue.
