Safe Web URL re-evaluation

If Norton's Safe Web rates a URL as "Caution" when you think the web page is entirely safe, you are given an option "Click here to submit dispute"

This results in you being sent an email saying they have decided to keep rating the URL as "Caution".

Does this mean a human has carried out the re-evaluation, or does it mean Norton have just applied the same computer algorithm a second time?

In either case, is there a way short of starting legal proceedings to ask Norton to produce evidence that there is an actual danger on that website, or to change their evaluation to "Safe" ?   And why isn't this way mentioned in the automated response email?

Re: Safe Web URL re-evaluation

Specific details, in case they are relevant to the process used for re-evaluation:

1. I am the co-creator of the sudoku logic puzzle "Gliese 752".

2. The website displaying the puzzle, run by puzzle enthusiasts, is:

https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/Raetsel/zeigen.php?id=000AGM

3. The easy-to-remember shortcut pointing at that puzzle is:

https://kitiara.has.coffee/Gliese752-LMD

4. The domain "kitiara.has.coffee" is one my wife obtained from tinyurl.com, and is used only by us.

5. We have nothing to do with any other domain under has.coffee that tinyurl has sold to other people.

We'll try to call attention:

https://kitiara.has.coffee/gliese752-fp lands on https://f-puzzles.com/?load=N4Igz[...]gMbUAA

The website is currently under review. You cannot submit dispute at this moment

Do you know if "re-evaluation" involves a human or is it purely automated?

Sorry, I've no idea how/if Norton Safe Web reviews shortened urls.

Use of shorteners for sudoku puzzles is quite common.   For example:

https://git.io/JULlP
https://tinyurl.com/grkles-laval-lamp
https://grkles.link/progress

I can supply Norton with a complete list of the URLs currently being used by kitiara.has.coffee (more will be added as we create more puzzles).

Okay.  We'll watch for review submission progress.

Okay.  I imagine website owners can communicate with Safe Web Team.

Site owners

If you are a website owner, Norton Safe Web can work with you to provide a safe environment for internet users.

Yes.   My wife says she tried that.   Unfortunately, Norton gives only two methods of verifying that you are the owner.

1.  add a meta tag into your website's home page

The sub-domains provided to their customers by tinyrurl.com don't let the customers specify "/" or "/index.html" as a shortcut string that can be re-directed.

2. add an HTML authentication file at the root folder of your website

The sub-domains provided to their customers by tinyrurl.com don't let the customers specify any strings of the format foo.html

.

Re: Safe Web URL re-evaluation

Hello @Trifle Sarcastic,

I see all the URLs mentioned in this forum thread are already rated as Safe/Green (thanks @bjm_ for your help on it so far).

Are there any other URLs we can review?

Dear Tomas Heinz,

I am glad to hear that URLs under kitiara.has.coffee are now being recognised as safe by Norton, in line with the evaluation by all the other security companies listed on https://www.virustotal.com/ and on https://www.urlvoid.com/

tomas_he:

Not at this time.   I would however, out of curiosity (and because I think other future members of this forum are likely to also want to know) be interested in the answers to the more general questions raised in this thread (which I'll repeat here for convenience):

1. Is there a page documenting the URL re-evaluation system?

2. Specifically, when the accuracy of the automatic categorisation of a particular URL is called into question, at what point in the process is the decision reviews by a human?

3. When an email is received saying that Norton has not changed their classification, what does that actually mean?   For example, if a site remains classified as "Caution" at that stage in the process, does that mean it has gone from "may contain ..." to "does contain ..." ?

4. Is posting a question in this community forum the best way of contacting a human in the dispute resolution team?   If not, what is the best way?

5. Is there any prospect of an option being added to the 'prove you own a website' process, to let the owner specify a file name that does not contain a "." symbol in it (or, I guess, more generally, specify a list of special characters they would like not to appear in the file name)?

Thank you for you time, and thank you to @bjm and the other members of this forum for their help and support.
